Frances E. Phillips, BA '69, of Dallas, was named by National Law Journal as a 2015 Energy and Environmental Trailblazer and was honored at an awards ceremony in New York. She is a partner and chair of Environmental Practice Group at the law firm of Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP. Phillips was one of 50 attorneys honored across the country who have "moved the needle in the legal arena" and are "impacting the crucial intersection between energy production and the environment" Phillips was one of only a few women in her University of Texas law school graduating class, and she began her career at the Environmental Protection Agency. Phillips focuses her practice mostly on big business and represents clients in all areas of environmental law and policy.

Sadler served as faculty athletics representative for 15 years, public address announcer for Wayland Athletics for 13 years, and held several offices in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Wayne Parham, MSEd '73, writes, "It was a pleasure to attend Baylor as a graduate assistant in the HPER department. I made many new friends at Baylor and in Waco. Before graduating from McMurry College, I served in the U.S. Army in the jungles of South Vietnam 1968-69 with the 199th Light Infantry Brigade. With two serious injuries and memories of the war, the following years were difficult at times, but the Baylor family made the transition to my career choices very smooth. The professors and students were fair and sensitive to veterans' needs. It was a pleasure to teach undergraduate classes in the PE department and work in the marina, teaching sailboating and first aid. I enjoyed participating in the Bear Downs bicycle race and attending all the football and basketball games. Thank you, Baylor, for all you did." Lynn Burton, BA '74, of Orange Grove, TX, was honored by the Texas Association of School Boards as the 2015 Superintendent of the Year for the Coastal Bend area. He has served Texas public schools for 39 years, the last seven as superintendent for Orange Grove. He previously was superintendent at Mt. lan Beason, BS '76, MS '79, of Shreveport, LA, CEO for Cardiovascular Consultants LLP, received the Harry J. Harwick Lifetime Achievement Award from the Medical Group Management Association. This award, sponsored by The Hartford™, is the highest recognition bestowed by MGMA. Beason has worked in medical practice management for over three decades and began work for Cardiovascular Consultants in 1996. He is responsible for the growth of the practice, serving the hospitals of the Willis-Knighton Health System and Minden Medical Center. Beason develops education for medical practice administrators and executives on effective leadership in healthcare organizations. He co-authored two laws in Louisiana that provided administrative simplification to the provider credentialing process. Beason also served as the Board Chair for the American College of Medical Practice Executives in 2009-10.

John Eddie Williams Jr., BBA '76, JD '78, of Houston, received Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse's (AVDA) second annual Joseph D. Jamail Award for Justice at the Home Safe Home Gala Oct. 14, 2015. Williams, a renowned trial lawyer and managing partner of Williams Kherkher Hart Boundas Law Firm, was recognized for his passion and commitment to advocating for people in need. He serves on the Board of Directors for the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy at Rice University, the Houston Astros and the Houston Bar Foundation.

Dr. Harold Nolte, BS '77, MSEd '80, is president at Kansas' Dodge City Community College. He has over 35 years of experience at community colleges throughout Texas, Florida and Kansas. Nolte retired from Blinn College as district president in early 2015. Prior to his tenure at Blinn, Nolte served as president at Navarro College. He undertook his doctoral studies in educational leadership at Mississippi State University and pursued postdoctoral education at the Harvard University Institute for Educational Management.

Karen Kernodle Martin, BA '81, MBA '83, of Irving, TX, is executive director of Paul Quinn College, the nation's only HBCU with a Center for Fundraising and Philanthropy. She will foster its bachelor's business degree program and mentor fundraising professionals from diverse demographic backgrounds. Martin was co-president of Student Foundation as a Baylor student. Her previous experience includes work advancing the Irving Schools Foundation, Delta Delta Delta Foundation, Texas Woman's University, and DeVry faculty service. Cinda Adams Brooks, BSN '83, of Spicewood, TX, and twin Linda Adams Witte, BSN '82, of Midland, TX, co- authored their memoir, Heartprints of Africa (Ant Press, 2015, 246 pages). The story recounts their parents, Dr. John, BS '52, and Martha Adams, BSN '55, of Midland, who served as medical missionaries in East Africa and three generations of a family's love, forged by shared faith, struggles, and triumphs, that serve Cinda and Linda and their family as they fight for survival in the midst of conflict in East Africa. Thomas W. Horton, BBA '83, was appointed senior advisor in the Industrials and Business Services Group for Warburg Pincus, a global private equities firm. Previously, Horton was chairman, president and CEO of American Airlines, leading the company through its successful restructuring and operational turnaround, which culminated in the merger with US Airways, creating the world's largest airline. He previously held several other senior leadership positions at American Airlines, including CFO. Horton also was CFO and vice chairman at AT&T. He serves on the Board of Directors of Walmart and Qualcomm.

Derek Haas, BA '91, MA '95, of Los Angeles, authored A Different Lie (Pegasus, 2015: 272 pages), a follow-up to The Assassin Trilogy novels. James L. Rosengren, MHA '91, received the Professional Achievement Award from the University of Central Florida. He is chairman and CEO of Heritage Health Solutions in Flower Mound, TX. Prior to starting Heritage, Rosengren was vice president of political and government relations for HealthNet. As a service-connected disabled veteran with more than 21 years in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps, he served in both clinical and administrative environments, including outpatient clinics, community hospitals and tertiary care teaching facilities. Eric Cowan, BA '94, of Dallas, is in his sixth year on the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees and is serving as president for the second time. Mara Friesen, JD '97, of Austin, was appointed deputy attorney general of the Child Support Division and IV- Director by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. Friesen has been a member of the child support team since 2000 and served in four different positions, including as the deputy director since 2013.

Michael Livingston, BA '98, of Charleston, SC, authored his debut novel, The Shards of Heaven (Tor Books, 2015: 416 pages), the first in a trilogy of historical fantasy novels set during the rise of the Roman Empire. He holds degrees in history, medieval studies and English and is an associate professor of English at the Citadel, specializing in the Middle Ages. Amy Furstenberg Gentile, BSEd '01, has been an occupational therapist and director of rehabilitation in the geriatric field for over 10 years. She recently was awarded a patent for the Couch Aid , a device that makes it easier to stand from a seated position. Dr. Reyna Vergara, BSEd '01, MDiv '04, recently completed her PhD in Spanish Language and Literature at the University at Buffalo. She is the department chair in the foreign languages department of The Gow School, a college preparatory school for students with dyslexia and related learning disabilities in South Wales, NY. There, her husband William Schnaithman, BSEd '06, founded the Gow Foreign Languages Department, where he has taught for six years. He also established a study abroad program. He is pursuing an MA in general linguistics at the University at Buffalo with a goal of earning his PhD in applied linguistics.

Jenny Chisholm Simmons, BA '03, authored The Road to Becoming: Rediscovering Your Life in the Not-How-I-Planned-It Moments (Baker Books 2015, 240 pages). Dr. Myles Werntz, MDiv '03, PhD '11, was named the T.B. Maston Chair of Christian Ethics at Hardin-Simmons University's Logsdon Seminary in Abilene, TX. He was previously an assistant professor of biblical and theological studies for the School of Ministry at Palm Beach Atlantic University in Florida. Werntz was also a temporary lecturer of theology at Baylor's Truett Seminary in 2011-12. He is the author of Bodies of Peace: Nonviolence, Ecclesiology, and Witness, among other works.

T.J. Turner, JD '04, was reappointed to the Texas Real Estate Commission through January 2021 by Gov. Greg Abbott. Turner is a partner at Cain & Skarmulis in Austin and is a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation. He serves on the Board of Trustees and Administrative Board for the First United Methodist Church of Austin. Turner also served as a briefing attorney for the Eleventh Court of Appeals, and as assistant general counsel to the Governor of Texas and an assistant attorney general for the State of Texas.

Bell Nunnally partner Heath Cheek, JD '06, of Dallas, was appointed vice chair of the State Fair of Texas Development Team--a group tasked with raising nearly $1.3 million through fundraising events attached to the Fair, one of the largest annual events in the world and the biggest in Texas. Cheek also chairs the Dallas Museum of Art's Junior Associates and is a board member for the Dallas Christian Legal Society. He is the deputy finance chairman for the Republican Party of Texas, chair of the Republican Lawyers of Dallas and Dallas co-chair of the Maverick PAC.

Amy Webber Robertson, BS '06, co-edited Responsive Teaching in Science and Mathematics (Routledge, 2016: 266 pages). The book introduces and then synthesizes research about responsive teaching, an instructional approach that attends to and takes up the substance of students' scientific and mathematical ideas. Robertson is a research assistant professor in the physics department at Seattle Pacific University. She and her husband, Justin Robertson, BS, '06, live in Seattle.

Robbie Scott, BA '06, and James Norton were married May 23, 2015, in Washington, DC. They met while serving at the Department of Homeland Security. Robbie went on to work at the White House and then received a law degree from Yale University in 2013. She recently was a law clerk to Judge Janice Rogers Brown of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and is now a law clerk to Judge Richard Leon of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. James is the founder of Play-Action Strategies, a government relations and business strategy firm. His is also an adjunct professor at Johns Hopkins University.

He is a tenure-track assistant professor at Rutgers, researching how the practice of school psychology can expand well beyond the boundaries of the school setting. Previously, Shahidullah worked at the University of Michigan Medical Center, The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and Geisinger Medical Center.

Previously, he was an attorney with Goldfarb PLLC handling oil and gas regulatory/compliance work and complex commercial litigation. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Southern California. Pocsik served as senior articles editor of the Baylor Law Review, 2009-10.

Cayla Wright, BBA '10, married James Welsh III July 11, 2015, at Second Baptist Church in Houston. The reception at the Museum of Natural Science included Dr Pepper floats. The couple resides in Houston, where Cayla works in private wealth management for Goldman Sachs, and James works in tax services for Ernst & Young.

Ana Bachmann, JD '13, of Dallas was named a senior associate attorney at Beal Law Firm. She is the youngest to hold this position in the firm's history. At Baylor, Bachmann was an associate editor of the Baylor Law Review and president of the Asian Law Students Association. She received both her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Texas at Dallas.

Elizabeth Ann Clark, BSEd '13, and David Webster, BS '05, were married May 9, 2015, in West, TX. Clark writes, "The wedding reception at The Carleen Bright Arboretum Pavilion in Woodway included several Baylor elements, including a Baylor Fight song entrance. The green and gold wedding cake rested on green lighted mason jars and was topped with two bears. The groom's cake was Texas shaped accented with BU. Many Baylor students, alumni and professors enjoyed doing the sic 'em, Bears. Following a honeymoon to New Zealand, the couple resides in China Spring. Rachel Rook, BMEd '13, married Matthew Eldridge, BBA '13, MAcc '13, June 27, 2015, at First Baptist Church in Allen, TX. Rachel is an elementary music teacher in Plano ISD and Matthew is an assurance staff member at Ernst & Young. "We met during our senior year at Baylor as members of the Golden Wave Band. Many of our friends and family who were at our wedding are fellow Bears, and Matthew even had a sailor bear groom's cake," Rachel writes. They reside in Richardson, TX.

Emily Tayntor, BSEd '13, married Robert Wycoff, BSEd '14, July 18, 2015, at Baylor's Truett Seminary Powell Chapel. The reception was at McLane Stadium in the Baylor Club Ballroom. Eight members of the wedding party were Baylor Bears. The couple resides in Waco and works at Midway ISD, where Emily is a 5th-grade science teacher and Robert works in the technology department.

Clarissa Burton, BA '14, is a Master's of Social Work student at UT Arlington. "While at Baylor, I had the opportunity to meet amazing women, which inspired me to create a blog, She-Me-We.com, with the intent to offer suggestions and advice on becoming the 'Whole Woman,' an idea to help develop all areas of our lives including relationships, finances, education, health and more in hopes of obtaining the life God called us to have," she writes.

Grace Riehl, BFA '14, started her own production company, Riehl Productions NYC, in New York. Her first production, Masked Realty, debuted Nov. 14, 2015, at Shetler Studios & Theatres, 244 West 54th St., NYC.
