Villedents Make Baylor a Family Tradition
Three members of the Villedent family graduated at spring commencement, bringing the family to a total of four Baylor graduates holding a combined total of five Baylor degrees.
Jorge Villedent Jr., B.A. ’15, M.B.A. ’22, the family’s oldest son, was the first graduate. He knew Baylor would be his new home the moment he saw a Pat Neff postcard. Soon after, Jorge Jr.’s younger sisters Ana Laura, B.A. ’18, and Alexa, B.S. ’22, followed in his footsteps. Ana Laura is now a dietitian, while Alexa plans to serve as an Americorps Vista and attend medical school.
“I chose Baylor based on the experiences my brother was having,” Ana Laura said. “Then, I got to experience it for myself. The campus, the people, the academics — I got more than I could’ve dreamed of.”
Of course, these experiences only brought the family closer together.
“It’s so special that our family can share this Baylor bond,” Alexa said. “It’s truly an added layer to how close we are.”
Shortly after earning his undergraduate degree, Jorge Jr. began working with the Paul L. Foster Success Center and decided to pursue his M.B.A. He helped launch and was an integral part of several different campus programs such as First in Line (a program for first-generation college students), The Store (a student food pantry) and Veteran Educational and Transition Services (VETS). He is constantly encouraged by the care the Baylor Family has for one another.
“I’ve been moved by how Bears always look out for one another,” he said. “The Baylor Family is so special in that way, and I’m so honored to be a part of it.”
Jorge Jr. was not alone when he decided to start his M.B.A. His father Jorge Sr., M.B.A. ’22, joined the mission.
“Completing this degree with my dad was one of the most enriching educational experiences I have ever had,” Jorge Jr. said. “For two years, I had a consistent and brilliant study partner. I loved hearing his input during class. And, he probably liked having someone that could help him with all of the Excel homework assignments.”
Today, Jorge Jr. serves as a financial advisor for Baylor’s Center for Global Engagement. Jorge Sr. continues his career at Equitable Advisors, where he’s served for more than 30 years.
“The quality of a Baylor education is unmatched,” Jorge Sr. said. “In addition to the well-rounded curriculum, we truly cherish the Christian community Baylor fosters. It’s a blessing to be a part of the Baylor Family.”
