Lasting Generosity

This spring, the Baylor Family has continued to give generously toward the Give Light campaign. Funding has been announced for several key initiatives which will support both faculty and students, including the creation of two new endowed chair positions that will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Baylor Academic Challenge. 

Eula Mae and John Baugh Chair in Physics

The Eula Mae and John Baugh Chair in Physics has been established through a $2.5 million estate gift from John and Eula Mae Baugh. The Baugh Chair will receive matching funds through the Baylor Academic Challenge to support faculty funding with the College of Arts & Sciences Department of Physics, focusing on innovative research and teaching in the area of materials science. The Baugh Chair will support Illuminate, the University’s strategic plan, by helping to attract and retain distinguished faculty whose research focuses in key areas of growth for the University. John Baugh served Baylor as a trustee and regent, and the Baugh family continues that legacy of support through John and Eula Mae’s late daughter, Babs Baugh, and her children, Jackie Baugh Moore, B.S.Ed ’86, and Julia Baugh Cloud, B.A. ’89.

Lev H. Prichard III Chair in the Study of Black Worship

A $1.5 million gift from the Prichard Family Foundation and Ella Wall Prichard, BA ’63, of Corpus Christi, Texas, establishes an endowed faculty position that will further the research and work of the nationally renowned Black Gospel Music Restoration Project, as well as scholarship in the areas of Black worship, preaching and studies. The Lev H. Prichard III Chair in the Study of Black Worship will serve as an interdisciplinary position that will conduct research and concentrate on efforts associated with the growth, preservation and promotion of the Black Gospel Music Restoration project collection and the University’s interdisciplinary approach to research and instruction of Black sacred music, Black worship and other relevant studies. The Lev H. Prichard III Chair in the Study of Black Worship, which will receive matching funds through the Baylor Academic Challenge, provides faculty endowment for research that will advance the Human Flourishing, Leadership and Ethics Initiative within Illuminate. The holder of the Prichard Chair will also be responsible for coordinating research efforts and promotion of the Black Gospel Restoration Project collection with stakeholders, including the George W. Truett Theological Seminary, Baylor School of Music, the Department of History and others included in scholarly activities.

Global Mission Leadership Gift

This $1.5 million gift from Stephen and Lori Angel of Connecticut and their children Logan Angel, BA ’13, of Dallas, Texas, and Mason Angel of Venice Beach, California, through the Angel Family Foundation supports student scholarships within the Diana R. Garland School of Social Work’s Global Mission Leadership (GML) program. The gift provides additional support for the existing Angel Family Foundation Global Mission Leadership Endowed Scholarship Fund, effectively doubling the fund’s endowment and creating enduring support in the form of annual scholarships for the program’s participants. In 2009, the Angels established the Angel Family Foundation Global Mission Leadership Endowed Scholarship Fund to support GML students and prepare them to return to their home countries for transformational service. Since that time, roughly half of the program’s students have received scholarship support through the Angel Scholarship Fund.
