Baylor Shines for Welcoming Environment

With beloved traditions like Line Camp, Welcome Week, the Baylor Line and the on-campus living experience, Baylor goes above and beyond to help new students feel like they are truly a part of the Baylor Family.

U.S. News and World Report, a leader in publishing college rankings, recently ranked Baylor University in the top 10 schools nationally for its “first-year experience.” U.S. News acknowledges the first-year experience is one of several factors that is linked to student success and positive learning outcomes while fostering a successful undergraduate student experience.

U.S. News’ overview description of Baylor noted the emphasis on Christian faith and service, as seen in traditions such as Steppin’ Out and the wide variety of both local and global missions opportunities. The write-up also mentioned the over 300 student organizations available to help students find their place at Baylor, the experiences that come from living on campus and campus events like Dr Pepper Hour and Diadeloso that bring the campus community together.

“It’s rare for a school the size of Baylor to be able to provide its students such a welcome to campus. Not surprisingly, most of the other schools near the top of the ranking are much smaller than Baylor. Only three other universities in the top-10 are R1 research institutions, and only one other plays NCAA Division I football. The fact that Baylor can offer students such a tight-knit community as well as the opportunity to be involved in big-time academics and athletics speaks to the unique experience we provide,” Vice President for Student Life Kevin Jackson, Ph.D., said.
