Serving First Responders

July 1, 2022

For the fifth straight year, Baylor Law’s Legal Clinics honored the hard work, dedication and sacrifice of McLennan County’s law enforcement, firefighters and emergency medical services.

First Responders

Throughout the month of May, Baylor Law’s Estate Planning Clinic offered free wills and simple estate planning to police, firefighters, emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and their spouses living or working in McLennan County.

“It is an absolute honor for Baylor Law to serve our local first responders,” Dean and M.C. and Mattie Caston Professor of Law Brad Toben, J.D. ’77, said. “Baylor Law has a deep appreciation for first responders’ services. This clinic is a tangible way for us to thank them for putting their lives on the line for us every day.”

International Firefighters Day, National Police Week and National EMS Week all take place in May, which made the month-long clinic perfectly timed.

“Our students look forward to this event every year and are eager to be able to give back to our local first responders,” Baylor Law’s Director of the Estate Planning Clinic Josh Borderud, B.A. ‘01, M.A. ’03, J.D. ’09, said. “Our students gain valuable hands-on experience in drafting documents, and our local first responders have peace of mind knowing that their estate planning is in order.”
