Steppin' Out tradition Links Campus to the community

Steppin' Out, a Baylor tradition that began in 1985, continues to link the campus with the local community.

More than 2,000 students volunteered at a variety of sites for Fall 2016 Steppin' Out in November. Their service included helping homeowners with projects, such as painting houses and yard clean-up, and working with local nonprofits such as Caritas and Keep Waco Beautiful.

"Our Steppin' Out Executive Committee, comprised entirely of students, has worked incredibly hard to prepare for this semester's event to build new partnerships and figure out ways in which we can best serve the Greater Waco area on the day of Steppin’ Out and beyond," said Macy Warburton, coordinator for community service at Baylor.

Steppin' Out is one of the largest community service projects on an American college campus and is nationally recognized for its commitment to service. The first Baylor Steppin' Out began with a week of events leading up to one big day of service to the community. It is now a day of service activities occurring each fall and spring.

"Our hope is that even after the day of Steppin' Out is over, students will want to continue serving their community," she said.
