Floyd W. Prather Sr.

Floyd W. Prather Sr., '42, of Waco, died Aug 1. He was 92. After his junior year at Baylor, Prather volunteered for the Army Air Corps. He completed 50 combat missions and flew the lead plane on some missions with the entire 15th Air Force under his command. He received many commendations, including the Distinguished Flying Cross, five Bronze Stars, and a Presidential Citation. He and wife Frances Durham, '44, lived in Comanche, Texas, where Prather became a civic leader and owner of peanut processing and fertilizer plants. Upon retirement in 1972, the Prathers moved to Waco, where Floyd was a member of Baylor's Development Council and many Baylor giving societies. He was honored as a Baylor Alumnus Honoris Causa. Frances died in 1999, and in 2001, Floyd married June Jarvis Prather, '52, who survives him. Memorial may be made to any one of the Floyd Prather Scholarships.
