Dr. Robert H. Young

Retired Baylor choral director and composer Dr. Robert H. Young, of Waco, died July 29. He was 88. Young was the Mary Gibbs Jones Professor of Music, director of graduate studies, interim dean and professor of choral music and church music from 1962-93. He founded the Baylor University Chamber Singers and was best known nationally as a distinguished composer of choral music. He was choirmaster at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Waco for 27 years and composed more than 100 pieces of sacred music. Young began his musical career during World War II when he led a choir while serving as a Marine in Hawaii. He studied at Otterbein College, Northwestern University and the University of Southern California.
