Rev. Bo Baker Jr.

Rev. Bo Baker Jr., BA '45, MA '46, died on Feb. 18, 2010. He was 86. Baker was a noted churchman, international evangelist, author, lyricist, denominational statesman, distinguished alumnus of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and recipient of Baylor's prestigious W.R. White Meritorious Service Award. In recognition of his worldwide ministry, the Doctor of Divinity degree was conferred upon him by Dallas Baptist University and also by Baylor. He began his preaching ministry while a student at Baylor and became an integral part of the Youth Revival Movement which began there in the early 1940s. Baker pastored Baptist churches in Gholson and Walnut Springs as a student, and his longest tenures were at Birchman Avenue Baptist Church in Fort Worth and Plymouth Park Baptist Church in Irving. In 1957, he began 16 years of traveling the world preaching and singing the Gospel with his musician brother Dick. He retired in 1988.
