Nursing School Celebrates Century Of Service

Baylor's Louise Herrington School of Nursing is holding a series of events to celebrate its 100th anniversary, including the dedication of new study facilities, an alumni reunion, a birthday party, a museum exhibit and a blood drive.
LHSON dedicated the Barnabas Success Center and the Diane Roose Brinkman Study Room on Sept. 11. Located in the student lounge area of the nursing school campus in Dallas, the Success Center promotes student achievement by offering quiet study areas with up-to-date resources, individual testing sites and free tutoring services.
Creation of these facilities was made possible by the generous gifts of Anita Collier Jones, BA '61, The Ginger Murchison Foundation (Don Wills, president) and Donald, BBA '67, MBA '68, and Kay, BBA '69, Roose.
"We are so grateful for the help of these wonderful friends of Baylor," Dean Judy Lott said. "The nursing curriculum is very challenging, and we know that these facilities will make a difference for our current students and for students in the future."
After the Centennial Alumni reunion Oct. 9-11, faculty, staff, and students celebrated the School of Nursing's 100th Birthday on Oct. 14.
In Waco, the "Celebrating a Century of Service" exhibit is open at the Mayborn Museum through April 10, 2010. 
Additionally, pre-nursing students in the National Student Nurses' Association partnered with Alpha Phi Omega to collect 614 pints of blood during an October drive, more than six times the group's goal. 
An endowed scholarship event and a community celebration will be held in February and March, 2010.
