Max Lucado Speaks At Baylor

"America's Pastor" Max Lucado presented the 2009 Ferguson-Clark Author Lecture Nov. 12 at Waco Hall to an audience of about 1,500. The seventh annual lecture series is a fundraiser for the Baylor University Libraries, with all of this year's proceeds benefiting the renovations of a 24-hour study area in Moody Library.
"This year's lecture was a great success," said Pattie Orr, vice president for information technology and dean of University Libraries. "We appreciate Max Lucado taking time from his very busy schedule to not only deliver a relevant, timely and poignant lecture, but for his generosity in taking time to personally meet all of our sponsors, patrons and others who attended the lecture. Baylor students will benefit for many years from this event."
Lucado spoke on the theme of his latest book, Fearless: Imagine Your Life Without Fear. He explained that trust in God can overcome any fear, including fears that surround the political and economic instability of the world today.
"The relationship between trust and fear is pretty simple," Lucado said. "Trust is fear that chooses to believe. It's not the absence of fear, but it's a facing of fear with faith that results in deeper trust."
Max and his wife Denalyn live in San Antonio, where Max is the Minister of Writing and Preaching at Oak Hills Church. One of their three daughters, Sara, is a junior at Baylor. 
In 2001, Collen A. Clark, BBA '86, JD '90, established the Ferguson-Clark Author Lecture Series endowment in honor of his mother, Carla Sue Ferguson Garrett, BA '58, a member of the libraries' Board of Advisors. Aramark Higher Education, the Baylor University Bookstore, Ted & Sue Getterman, Baylor's journalism department, KWBU, George W. Truett Theological Seminary, Waco Hilton, and the Waco Tribune-Herald sponsored the event.
