Justice Served

February 28, 2008

The Texas Supreme Court convened Dec. 6 in the Jim Kronzer Appellate Advocacy Courtroom at Baylor Law School's Sheila and Walter Umphrey Law Center. Before the nine Justices heard arguments in two cases, Baylor Law School Dean Brad Toben, JD '77, and others paid tribute to the life and career of the late Texas Supreme Court Justice (1977-84) and former Baylor Law School dean (1984-91), the Hon. Charles W. Barrow, JD '43, who died June 25, 2006.
"It is our tradition to invite a federal or state appellate court to sit at Baylor each year to provide our students with the opportunity to learn by observing actual proceedings," said Leah W. Jackson, BBA '83, JD '85, associate dean for the law school. "In addition to the Texas Supreme Court, in past years we hosted three-judge panels from the United State Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals and the Tenth Court of Appeals of Texas."
This was the Texas Supreme Court's third visit to the Law School. The initial visit took place in 1998, which was the first time the court sat outside of Austin in modern history. The court also convened at Baylor Law School in 2002.
