Championship Performance

Clifton, Texas native Eddie Gauntt, BA '79 performed the German national anthem before the Euro 2008 championship match in Vienna between Germany and Spain in June. Gauntt sang before a stadium of more than 50,000 passionate soccer fans and an estimated 300 million viewers watching on television.
In addition to major operatic roles throughout Europe, Gauntt has performed for President Bill Clinton, Prince Bernhard of Baden, King Juan Carlos the First of Spain, and the Ex-Chancellor of Germany, Gerhard Schroeder.

On May 29, 2004, Gauntt became the first American invited to sing the anthem before the German national soccer finals at Olympic Stadium in Berlin.
