New VPs For Marketing, Development

December 4, 2006

Two new vice presidents, John M. Barry and Dr. Dennis A. Prescott, will lead the departments of marketing and development.
Barry, the new director of marketing and communications, arrived at Baylor in the fall from the University of Connecticut, where he was director of university communications. He succeeded Paul H. Carr, who served as interim vice president since May 1, and Larry D. Brumley, who served as interim vice president from November 2005 until he joined Mercer University as senior vice president and chief of staff to the president.
As Baylor's chief communications strategist and member of the president's executive council, Barry manages the office of public relations, Baylor Magazine, BaylorVision video services, media relations, online communications, photography, public TV/radio stations, and university publications and creative services.
Barry and his wife, Patty, have three sons, Stephen, Michael and Kevin.
Prescott will assume his position on Jan. 8, 2007. The native Texan currently is vice president for external affairs for Mississippi State University and chief executive officer of the MSU Foundation. He will be responsible for planning, organizing and implementing programs to secure financial resources for the University and will lead Baylor's forthcoming capital campaign.
He succeeds Dr. Randy Lofgren, who has served as interim vice president for development since April, when longtime vice president Dr. Richard C. Scott stepped aside. Scott will officially retire Dec. 31 as vice president, dean and professor emeritus.
Prescott and his wife, Dr. Ruth Prescott, have a daughter, Samantha.
