Kyle Lake Memorial Fund

December 4, 2006

George W. Truett Theological Seminary is honoring Kyle's legacy as a pastor and alumnus through the Kyle Lake Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund.
Established by Kyle's parents, David and Shirley Lake, not long after his death, the scholarship has been further supported by Truett alumni, family and friends of Kyle. It is awarded to students preparing for pastoral ministry on the basis of merit and need.
One of this year's recipients is Matt Addington, a seminary student who hopes to use his degree to minister to young adults in a university.
"It is a great honor to receive something with Kyle's name on it," says Matt, who also attends UBC. "Kyle showed everyone he came into contact with what Christ-like people should be like.
"I also see this as a kind of challenge," he adds. "Because of the amazing example he was to me both as a mentor and a friend, I hope that I can be that to someone in the future."
Kyle received his master of divinity degree from Truett in 1997; he previously earned a bachelor's degree in speech communication and religion from Baylor University in 1994, and completed an internship at Saddleback Community Church in Orange County, Calif., in 1997, before joining the staff at University Baptist Church.
He is the author of two published books: Understanding God's Will: How to Hack the Equation Without Formulas and Re-Understanding Prayer: A Fresh Approach to Conversation with God.
