This Call's On Us

January 18, 2005

Floyd Casey Stadium was packed on New Year's Day. No, it wasn't the site of a bowl game featuring the Bears. It was a send-off hosted by Baylor for the largest overseas deployment of Texas Army National Guard troops since World War II.
Approximately 18,000 family members gathered as more than 3,000 from the 56th Brigade Combat Team, 36th Infantry Division prepared to ship off to serve in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Baylor also led "Operation Phone Card," a Central Texas-wide effort to raise funds to provide a long-distance phone card for each member of the 56th Brigade so they will be able to call their families during their deployment to Iraq.
