Q: What would your students be surprised to learn about you?

Thomas Hibbs

I grew up in the Washington, D.C., area and spent many summers as a kid in southern Maryland, where I have great memories of catching, steaming and eating Maryland blue crabs.'I still relish the opportunity to return to Maryland, visit family and friends and eat local seafood, the supply of which has become sadly depleted over the years.
I also have warm memories of playing and coaching basketball, although I must confess I was much more successful as a coach than as a player: An eighth grade team that I coached with some college friends won the city title in Washington, D.C., in the late 1970s.'
I was not much of a student until college when professors at the University of Maryland introduced me to philosophy.'Before then, I had pretty poor work habits, which kept me from fulfilling my highest high school ambition -- playing lead guitar in a rock band.'
