Meanwhile, on the West Coast . . .
Senior telecommunication major Hasina Pottinger rushed around the control room in the studio of the "Best D*** Sports Show Period" and handed out rundowns

for the upcoming production.
As an intern for FOXsports, Pottinger met famous directors, athletes and actors. "My favorite person to meet was Arnold Schwarzenegger," she says. "It surprised me because he's not tall at all, he's just really buff. Also, Michael Irvin was one of the most encouraging people I met."
Pottinger, who wants to become a sportscaster, took the unpaid internship position in Los Angeles expecting she might encounter gender bias. "I knew going in that it is a male-dominated industry," she says. "There were only a few women there, and I am really set on changing that, because I think it should be more diverse. But no one was negative toward me at all."
During her internship, Pottinger produced a script and a tape, which reassured her about her goals. "Seeing the final product is amazing, and I felt really comfortable in front of the camera," she says. "It confirmed everything for me. I love sports, the people were great and I know this is what I want to do."
In addition to the experience she gained on the set, Pottinger learned more about Los Angeles and the sports broadcasting industry. Although it's a tough career in which to find success, Pottinger is encouraged. "It opened my eyes to what I would be getting into and the type of person I would need to be to succeed. I really learned about myself."
