Bennighof Named Vice Provost

August 7, 2003

Dr. James Bennighof, professor of music theory in the School of Music, was named vice provost for academic administration, effective Aug. 1.
"Jim Bennighof brings to the provost's office a wealth of extremely valuable local experience," said Dr. David Lyle Jeffrey, provost and Distinguished Professor of Literature and Humanities.
Dr. Bennighof joined the Baylor faculty in 1984, receiving tenure in 1990. During that time, he has served as director of the academic studies division of the School of Music and associate dean, as well as on a variety of academic committees.
"In all of these roles, Jim has distinguished himself for conscientious attention to the well-being of the intellectual community and professional excellence at Baylor," Dr. Jeffrey said.
As vice provost, Dr. Bennighof's duties will include interviewing candidates for faculty positions, working with departments on curriculum revision and development and representing the provost's office in various other venues. He will retain his academic appointment in the School of Music.
