And Finally

Ceramist-in-Residence Paul A. McCoy works in stoneware clay to create his wheel-thrown pieces. At Baylor since 1986, McCoy creates functional pottery and ceramic sculpture, both of which engage his "pursuit of that which transcends physical existence, both driven by a need to wonder," he says. Functional pottery such as dishes and bowls "are close enough to us to influence us in ways no other art form is capable of," he says. Since he pushed and worried his first pot into existence, he says, "I have known this to be an act of celebration."
