Students Explore Discovery and Creativity
National Engineers Week highlights the impact of engineering on daily life and encourages an interest in STEM careers in K-12 students. Baylor’s participation in the annual celebration spotlights the year-round work of the University to promote innovation and discovery throughout its community.
This year, Baylor mechanical engineering researchers visited schools across Waco to make drones and robotics come alive for students. They led hands-on projects with students, sharing the benefits and excitement of curiosity, creativity and problem-solving and encouraging the next generation of engineering professionals.
This year’s project prompted students to apply the engineering design process to the roles of computer programmer and robot, using Lego bricks to solve challenges.
National Engineers Week was founded in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers and has grown into a widely observed week to celebrate innovation, promote engineering education and encourage the future engineering workforce.
