On the Road Back Home

Nearly 75 years after attending Baylor University, country music legend Willie Nelson returned to Waco for a homecoming that fans will remember for years to come. On May 14, Nelson took the stage at Magnolia Field at Baylor Ballpark, fulfilling a long-awaited return to his alma mater and giving a sold-out crowd a chance to celebrate one of Texas’ most iconic musicians. 

The event drew attendees from across generations, from Baylor students and young fans to lifelong fans who had followed Nelson’s career for decades. 

Before the concert, Baylor President Linda A. Livingstone, Ph.D., presented Nelson with his own Baylor Line jersey and an official Alumni-by-Choice decree. 

Backed by his signature sound, Nelson played songs such as “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys” and “On the Road Again.” The concert was more than a performance — it was a celebration of Texas’ musical history, Nelson’s remarkable career and a long-awaited homecoming.
