TEDxBaylor University event featuring speakers on stage at the "Innovation in Deeds" program

Following the first successful TEDxBaylor University event last fall, Baylor has released a YouTube playlist featuring talks from its inaugural event — a dynamic lineup of speakers from across the Baylor campus and the Waco community sharing innovative ideas, groundbreaking research and inspiring personal stories.

Hosted at the Mark and Paula Hurd Welcome Center, the TEDxBaylor University event, titled “Innovation in Deeds,” showcased interdisciplinary collaboration, creative ingenuity and shared learning. Each TEDx speaker captured the theme of how courageous thinking, when turned into action, can ignite change around
the world.

Among the 10 speakers were faculty researcher Erik Carter, Ph.D., the Luther Sweet Endowed Chair in Disabilities and executive director of the Baylor Center for Developmental Disabilities, who explained how the inclusion of people with disabilities leads to greater flourishing for all; Spencer Yim, senior University Scholar major and Student Regent, who spoke about the power of discomfort from thinking and being outside the box; and Waco community leader and Cha Community co-owner Jaja Chen, B.S.W. ’15, M.S.W. ’16, LCSW-S, who described how “one golden moment” changed everything for her, as well as many other campus and community leaders.

“The TEDxBaylor University event was a tremendous opportunity to bring our interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation to a global audience,” said Baylor President Linda A. Livingstone, Ph.D. “The day was filled with bold ideas, creative energy and powerful stories from across campus and the Waco community. It was a wonderful way to foster community and encourage partnerships that bring big ideas to life.”
