Margaret E. Hollis

Margaret Elaine Lomax Hollis, A.B.C. ’00, passed away May 9, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, family and generosity. She was the second daughter of Bernice and William “Bryan” Lomax, born in the same house as her father on the Lomax Farm in Hornersville, MO, June 24, 1941.

When she was a teenager, Hollis’ family relocated to California. She was in the first graduating class of Manuel Dominguez High School in Compton, CA, where she was on the student committee that helped select the name, colors and mascot. After a year back in Arkansas at Ouachita Baptist College, she transferred and received a sociology degree from California Baptist College.

Hollis had an adventure moving after graduation to Honolulu to work with the student department of the Hawaii Baptist Convention. It was here that she met Bob Hollis, B.B.A. ’61, a naval officer from Texas with a degree from Baylor. They dated across several states for three years and were married June 25, 1966, in Decatur, GA.

Hollis loved being a stay-at-home mom and housewife, raising three children and spending time with extended family and friends. She established several family traditions, like Christmas Eve at the beach and shoebox packing on Thanksgiving for Operation Christmas Child. She loved college football, cooking, reading, quilting and spending time with her grandchildren.

After her nest was empty, Hollis started volunteering with Baylor, which eventually turned into a paid role as a regional admissions counselor. Introducing families and students to the University, she was, at one time, the only Baylor employee outside of Texas.
