Linda Lou Shafer Gilbert was born Feb. 27, 1941, with her twin sister, Sandra Sue, in Kansas City, KS. She passed away May 10 in Colorado Springs, CO, with her loving family at her side. She lived a long and productive life filled with love, joy and compassion for many.

Gilbert accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior early in life and lived her Christian beliefs all her life as an example to her family, friends and all those she encountered.

She was passionate about her nursing career which spanned 52 years. Her specialty was maternity nursing, and she loved working in labor and delivery, nursery and all maternity areas at the Greenville, TX, hospital. She also worked for three years at the Arkansas Children’s Hospital and the last 13 years at Penrose Hospital in the GI lab in Colorado Springs. After retiring, she continued in the medical field in Colorado Springs as a volunteer “Cuddler” in the NICU unit of St. Francis Medical Center and volunteered at the faith-based Mercy’s Gate Center assisting those in need.

Gilbert was blessed and grateful to have been married for 63 years to Harold Gilbert and loved being his wife and the mother of two daughters, Kara Gay Lynne, B.S.N. ’81, and Glenda Gail, B.S. ’85.
