Investing in Student Success
At a time when public rhetoric questions the value of college and new graduates are finding it difficult to break into a career, Baylor University Career Center provides assistance to all Baylor students through tailored career coaching, connections with employers, graduate school planning and much more. With 94% of 2025 Baylor graduates starting a job or entering graduate school, military or volunteer service within six months of graduation, the Career Center prepares students to go into the world, follow their calling and find professional success.
In addition to Career Days for the entire campus and school-specific careers, the Career Center also offers personalized career coaching sessions. Every undergraduate student has a dedicated Career Success Professional (CSP) who provides individualized guidance tailored to each student’s academic background, strengths and goals. These coaching sessions address every stage of the career journey, including self-discovery, résumé development, graduate school planning, networking, job search strategy, interview preparation and offer negotiation.
“I felt a little lost because my interests and future goals are somewhat niche,” said rising psychology senior Emma Robinson. “My CSP helped me find a list of internships and jobs that fit with my interests exactly. With her guidance, I found and accepted an internship this summer with DeafYES!, which aligns closely with my interests in mental health, ASL and the Deaf community.”
In 2025, more than 2,500 students took professional development courses offered by the Career Center. These elective courses are designed to focus on building foundational skills that prepare students to enter their professions with confidence, such as résumé refinement and cover letter writing, networking and interviewing. After launching in 2019, there are now 63 sections each year that have grown to include tracks tailored to students in the liberal arts, engineering, computer science, health and other sciences. Students who take a professional development class ultimately enter the workforce earning salaries that are on average almost $10,000 more per year than their peers.
“The professional development class gives you a strong foundation,” Charlie Sheridan, B.A. ’25, said, “and the CSP one-on-one appointments personalize everything. The preparation I gained through both helped me secure an internship with Little League International, which led to a full-time position and my current job.”
Over the past five years, placement rates — students who have accepted a full-time professional position after graduation — have increased from 78% to 92% due to the Career Center’s dedication to finding new, intentional ways to serve and connect with students. The Career Center offers robust support strategies designed to help every student prepare for meaningful, purpose-driven lives after graduation, affirming that a career is more than a job — it’s a pathway to purpose, service and impact.
