Walter L. Bradley
Walter Bradley, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, went to be with the Lord peacefully on July 2, 2025.
Bradley was an internationally recognized professor of mechanical engineering and materials science at Baylor. Alongside a distinguished professional and service career, Bradley prioritized people and was known for his kindness and genuine interest in others, which led to many friendships and mentoring relationships across the United States and around the world.
Bradley was born on Dec. 27, 1943, in Dallas and grew up in Corpus Christi, TX. He attended the University of Texas, where he earned a bachelor’s and a doctorate in engineering and materials science. While in Austin, he met his wife and lifelong companion, Carol Ann James, to whom he was married for 60 years.
Bradley served as a mechanical engineering faculty member for over 45 years at the Colorado School of Mines, Texas A&M University and Baylor University, achieving tenure by the age of 27. He pioneered work in metallurgy, composite materials, polymers and natural composites.
Bradley was a leading voice on the connections between faith and science. He co-authored the seminal book, The Mystery of Life’s Origin, and he was one of the founding professors of Campus Crusade for Christ’s (CRU) Faculty Commons ministry.
After retiring from Baylor, Bradley and Ann relocated to Georgetown, TX.
Family was at the heart of Bradley’s life. He sought to nurture and encourage the faith of his children and grandchildren, guiding them toward a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ through his example, wisdom and steadfast love. His legacy of faith continues to inspire his family to walk closely with the Lord.
