VB Marks Decade of McGuyre
When Ryan McGuyre took over as head coach of the Baylor volleyball team in 2015, he inherited a program that earned four total NCAA postseason appearances over the program’s prior 37-year history.
Closing out a decade under McGuyre’s leadership, the Bears finished the 2024 season with the program’s ninth-straight NCAA bid, earning the No. 15 national seed in the 2024 NCAA Volleyball Championship.
After sweeping Wofford to open the weekend, the Bears fell to a powerful Dayton (31-2) squad, capping off a 23-8 season for Baylor. McGuyre’s teams have now had 20-plus wins in eight of his 10 seasons in Waco, bouncing back from a 17-13 mark in an injury-ridden 2023 campaign.
The Bears were led this season by four All-
Conference student-athletes, including unanimous All-Big 12 First Team selection Elise McGhee, who was selected by the San Diego Mojo in the Pro Volleyball Federation Draft in November. Second-team honorees included Jackie Barrett Frazier, Lauren Briseño and Allie Sczech.
“Who we are now is so much better and bigger than who we were at the beginning of the year both as a volleyball team but, most importantly, as women and followers of Christ,” McGuyre said after the Dayton match. “It’s disappointing because it’s been a real fun season. I think disappointment is normally not the end of a great journey but the start of something bigger and better moving forward. For our seniors, I look forward to seeing what God is going to continue to do in their lives as they move forward. And next year, the future of Baylor continues to be bright.”
At the November signing day period, Baylor announced three signees for the 2025 season — including the top libero in the class — who will join a solid roster of key returners for next year’s campaign.
