Three For Muncy
Baylor baseball Hall of Famer and 2020 Young Alumnus of the Year Max Muncy helped lead the Los Angeles Dodgers to a repeat, winning the 2025 World Series. Muncy, who holds the Baylor record for the most World Series rings, is the fifth Baylor alumnus to win a World Series title and the first to win multiple rings, with the Dodgers besting the Toronto Blue Jays in a thrilling 2025 Fall Classic.
Before the bright lights of MLB stardom, Muncy logged a standout career at Baylor from 2010 to 2012. A Freshman All-American and two-time All-Big 12 First Team honoree, Muncy posted a .322 batting average with 16 home runs and 100 RBIs across his sophomore and junior seasons.
In the 2025 World Series, “Mad Max” was a key player in the Dodgers’ lineup, starting all seven games at third base in L.A.’s run to an instant-classic title.
Muncy sparked a remarkable comeback for the Dodgers, cutting a 4-2 Blue Jays lead in Game 7 to a one-run game with a solo home run in the eighth.
The Dodgers would tie in the ninth to force extra innings and clinch the title in the 11th, winning 5-4 to spoil the festivities for the eager home crowd in Toronto. The extra-innings win capped off a run that included an 18-inning Dodgers win in Game 3, tying the MLB record for the most innings played in a single game in World Series history.
Muncy’s solo shot was the 16th postseason home run of his illustrious career, adding his fourth career slam in World Series play.
An L.A. fan favorite, Muncy was retained by the Dodgers, as the squad picked up his contract on a club option for 2026.
Muncy and his wife Kellie, B.S. ’13, met while they were students at Baylor and were married two weeks after his historic home run in the 2018 World Series.
Inducted into the Baylor Athletics Hall of Fame in 2023, Muncy has consistently returned to Baylor Ballpark to speak to the team and visit with Baylor Baseball Head Coach Mitch Thompson, who was an assistant head coach during Muncy’s time in Waco.
Muncy’s contributions to the Dodgers dynasty add to a rich tradition of success for Baylor and its baseball program. Muncy leads among fellow Baylor alumni Shea Langeliers, who reached the World Series with the Atlanta Braves in 2021, and Cody Bradford, B.B.A. ’19, who led the Texas Rangers to a title in 2023.
