Nurturing the Spirit

Holistically shaping people at Baylor extends beyond the students to the faculty and staff. Faculty & Staff Chapel was launched in November 2022 as part of a campus-wide Spiritual Wellbeing initiative launched by Baylor President Linda A. Livingstone, Ph.D. The services bring guest pastors and congregations to campus and complement both personal spiritual growth and Baylor’s mission — where faith is central to the University and how it prepares students for a life of leadership and service in the world.

This spring’s Faculty & Staff Chapel was facilitated by the Wesley House of Studies of George W. Truett Theological Seminary and provided a unique opportunity for Baylor faculty and staff (and students) to worship in the Methodist tradition.

Kenneth Levingston, the presiding bishop for the MidTexas Global Methodist Church Conference and a senior pastor in Houston, delivered the chapel message, and individuals from the Wesley House and local churches were included in the program.

As faculty and staff pursue their personal faith in ways that enrich their families and overall wellbeing, services like chapel are designed to support their growth. By nurturing wellbeing, individuals enhance their overall sense of fulfillment, happiness and balance in their personal and professional lives. Faculty and Staff Chapel, along with Spiritual Wellbeing leave introduced in 2023, highlights Baylor’s emphasis on holistic care and is just one reason why in the annual “Great Colleges to Work For” survey conducted by ModernThink, the University achieved honor roll recognition for all categories, including Faculty and Staff Wellbeing.
