Levi W. Price Jr., B.A. ’64, of Waco, died Feb. 19. Born on Dec. 25, 1941, in Gorman, TX, Price was raised in a pastor’s home and moved frequently during childhood. He graduated from Monahans High School in 1960 and married Luethyl Dawkins, B.A. ’64, in 1962.

Price earned a Bachelor of Arts from Baylor in 1964 before serving in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1964 to 1968. As a combat engineer in Vietnam, he achieved the rank of captain and received a battlefield commendation.

Price later earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from Golden Gate Theological Seminary in 1976. He pastored churches in Richmond, TX; Fresno, TX; and Milpitas, CA, before serving as a missionary in Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico, through the Southern Baptist Convention.

From there, he was called to First Baptist Church in El Paso, where he served for 17 years. Following his pastorate, Price served as a professor of Christian ministries at Baylor’s George W. Truett Theological Seminary, a role he cherished as he mentored future church leaders. In retirement, he continued to serve as interim pastor for churches across Texas and New Mexico.

Price was a lifelong supporter of Paisano Baptist Encampment near Alpine, TX, where he attended the camp as a child, preached at as a college student and ultimately served as its president for 20 years. His decades-long commitment to Paisano reflected his deep passion for ministry and discipleship.

Above all, Price was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His life was marked by faith, love and service — always pointing others to Christ.
