Leadership Champion in Fort Worth
Joseph DeWoody, B.B.A. ’05, M.B.A. ’06, was named Energy Services and Technology Executive of the Year in the D CEO 2025 Energy Awards. The Awards honor excellence and innovation in oil, gas and renewable energy in North Texas.
DeWoody is the co-founder of Valor, a Fort Worth-based tech-enabled professional service company with expertise in providing mineral management services, including oil and gas accounting, land management and proprietary software solutions. DeWoody modernized the industry, replacing file cabinets and wall maps with digital insights for mineral owners by providing a cloud-based mineral management platform that provides real-time royalty reporting, asset visualization and revenue optimization tools.
Since founding the company in 2018, DeWoody has helped Valor become one of the Southwest’s leading private asset managers, supporting clients who own or manage oil and gas assets in more than 30 states. The revenue managed by Valor for its clients has grown exponentially, reaching over $650 million annually.
DeWoody sees even more in store for digitization in the energy sector. “For decades, mineral management has been manual and fragmented,” he said. “Now, with advances in data aggregation, cloud architecture and AI, we’re able to validate revenues, automate workflows and surface insights in real-time. This is reshaping expectations for accountability and performance in the mineral management space.”
Over the years, DeWoody has been named to Fort Worth Inc.’s “40 Under 40” and “The 500”, Texas Monthly’s “Texas’ Top Producer”, Dallas Business Journal’s “Who’s Who in Energy”, Oil and Gas Magazine’s “20 Under 40 E&P Executives”, and in 2025, DeWoody was presented the Susan Halsey Executive Leadership Award by the Fort Worth Chamber.
