Students Join Together in Prayer
Baylor has a distinctive place in higher education as a Christian research university — a place where research, scholarship, community and faith come together to prepare graduates to make a difference in the world.
Earlier this year, Baylor was the host site for the 2024 Collegiate Day of Prayer, an evening worship and prayer service live-streamed around the world. The next month, the student-led FM72 brought together students for 72 hours of continuous prayer on Fountain Mall.
Since 2019, students have joined together on Fountain Mall to seek God and stir a passion for Christ through FM72. Modeled after a gathering in 1945 when Baylor students prayed for renewal for 90 days and sparked a movement that spread across the country, the individual prayer times, guided prayer services and worship events of FM72 have become an annual part of the University’s expression of faith.
The Collegiate Day of Prayer similarly has historical roots, bringing together college campuses across the nation to challenge believers to stand together and pray as a united and multi-generational expression of the church since its origins in 1823.
Remarking on Baylor’s role as host of the 2024 Collegiate Day of Prayer, Baylor President Linda A. Livingstone, Ph.D., said, “We are humbled to be a conduit for Christians from around the state of Texas, the nation and the world to connect in prayer this year. This is a showcase for the beautiful diversity of the Kingdom of God in this global moment.”
