Paul Howard Comer
Paul Howard Comer, B.A. ’50, passed away on July 15 at the age of 97. Comer was born August 24, 1926, in Union County (Monroe), North Carolina, to Treva Agnes Zigler and Charles Shuford Comer.
A proud veteran of World War II, Comer served in the United States Navy. In addition to his military service, he pursued higher education, earning his bachelor’s degree from Baylor University and his Master of Divinity from Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth.
Comer dedicated his life to the ministry, serving as a pastor for 60 years. His pastoral journey included significant tenures at Park Lake Drive Baptist Church in Waco, as associate pastor of the First Baptist Church of Texas City and as pastor of Arcadia First Baptist Church in Santa Fe, Texas. In the late 1970s, he contributed to the academic and spiritual community as a member of the Baylor University Board of Trustees.
Renowned for his deep and abiding faith, Comer had memorized most of the Bible. His spiritual leadership, devotion and wisdom touched countless lives over the decades.
