Dr. Nathan Libby, BA '36, MD '36, writes, “I celebrated my 100th birthday this past May with my family and a few friends. I have been married to the former Shirley Stats for 69 years. We have five children, 16 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Two of my sons graduated from Baylor Medical School, Dan in 1974 and Jim in 1982. On Oct. 14, 2013, Dr. Scott Tatum, BA '41, completed 75 years as a Baptist minister. To celebrate the event, he and members of his family went back to Waco Hall where it all began on Oct. 14, 1938. It was during a campus revival led by Dr. George W. Truett that Tatum surrendered to God's call to become a preacher.
During his student days at Baylor, Tatum was pastor of four small rural churches in East Texas. Later, during his education at Southwestern Seminary, he was pastor of churches in Canton and Hubbard. He was pastor of Hyde Park Church in Austin for five years. In 1951, he began a 24-year pastorate at Broadmoor Baptist Church in Shreveport before spending 14 years as a professor of preaching at Southwestern.
His wife, Doris, '44, and their three children are Baylor Bears as well: Dr. Wilson, BA '67, and Dr. Cheryl Tatum, BA '71, Dr. Richard, BA '68, and Patricia (Tatum) Price, BA '68, and Dr. Terry, BA '70, and Kathryn (Tatum) Land, '72. Baylor Bear grandchildren include Dr. Alyson Denson, BA '94, James Price, BA '94, and Melanie (Price) Stivers, BSEd '97.

Bette (Gough) Slade, BA '42, of Henderson, Texas, writes, “Being the Urbanite homecoming queen nominee in 1941, we had a truck covered in chicken wire stuffed with paper napkins to make it fluffy. A swing was devised for me to sit in, dressed in Catherine Coit's fox fur coat! It was so crude compared to current Baylor homecoming floats, but this has been one of my favorite tales for so many years, I had to share it.”

Betty Jo (Norvell) Harman, '43, of Fort Worth, is the only survivor of the second generation of this 2002 Baylor “First Family.” She has four children, seven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

Joyce (Copeland)
Mansfield, BA '47, MA '48, of Shaw Island, Wash., taught math at Baylor from 1948-52. She was president of the Atheneans (now Kappa Kappa Gamma) in 1947 and was a member of Sigma Tau Delta. Richard “Dick” Hatch, JD '49, of Aransas Pass, Texas, celebrated his 101st birthday on Nov. 10, 2013. After serving in the Navy during World War II, he was city attorney for Aransas Pass and county attorney for San Patricio County. After retirement in 1984, he went into private practice. He and his wife, Katherine, had four children, 20 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Tom Stone, BBA '50, and his wife, Margaret, of Longview, Texas, were newlyweds in 1950 when they attended the first-ever game at Baylor Stadium, a 34-7 win over Houston. Over the past 63 years, they had two children, Tom and Karoletha, BMEd '79, attended countless Baylor concerts, established a scholarship, joined the Board of Advocacy for the School of Social Work, continued to hold season tickets for football and men's and women's basketball, and enjoyed a “Baylor room” in their house.
Tom said, “God's been good to us and given us 63 wonderful years of marriage and allowed us to be a part of this at Baylor. I remember that first game and - when you're young, you don't think about something so new closing and that you would live to see it. It's overwhelming having been able to be a part and to witness history.”
The Stones plan on attending the opening of the new McLane Stadium in the fall.

Dr. Terry Downs, BS '51, DDS '55, of Plano, Texas, played football, basketball, and baseball at Baylor from 1947-50. He practiced dentistry in San Antonio for 40 years and has been married to his wife, Hazel, for 48 years. They have three children, three grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild. Downs served in the 36th Division of the U.S. Army and the U.S Air Force 3510 Hospital Group. LaVerne (Albert) Johnston, BA '51, MA '58, and Dr. Marshall Johnston, a retired University of Texas professor, celebrated 50 years of marriage Dec. 22, 2011. They welcomed their first grandchild 10 months later. Dr. E.B. (Ben) Self, BA '51, MA '52, of Hopkinsville, Ky., has authored Ways of Thinking about God: The Bible, Philosophy, and Science. (Nurturing Faith, 2013: 146 pages). He holds advanced degrees from Yale and Vanderbilt and has served as pastor of Baptist churches in Tennessee and Kentucky. For many years, Self taught at Hopkinsville Community College when it was part of the University of Kentucky. He is now retired.

Dr. Lee Holden, BA '52, and Linda (Young) Holden, BS '48, of Oklahoma City, met while they were both at Baylor and have been married for 65 years. Lee has practiced veterinary medicine in Oklahoma City for 55 years and still goes to the clinic (Britton Road Vet Clinic) two and a half days a week.

Mary Sue (Hicks) Barnard, BA '53, resides in Columbia, Mo., where her siblings, Nancy (Hicks) Mebed and Whitney Hicks, also live. She enjoys painting, church choir, and gardening.
R. Perry Ellis, BA '53, of Lewisville, Texas, is leading a weekly mentoring ministry for men using The Four Priorities by Dr. John Tolson and Larry Kreider as a guide. The participants commit to a mentoring ministry after completing their study.
Gloria A. Johnson, BA '53, and her husband, Bob, of Wellborn, Texas, are both retired from Texas A&M University. They have two children, six grandchildren and one great-grandson, with another on the way. The Johnsons are active in Parkway Baptist Church.
Ty, BA '53, MSEd '54, and Ruth (Heard) Newton, BS '53, of College Station, Texas, have a Baylor freshman granddaughter, Meg Newton. Their daughter, Sha (Newton) Klatt BA '80, her husband, Mike Klatt, JD '80, of Austin, and their son, Sam Klatt, BA '12, are also Baylor graduates.
Dr. John H. Starkey, BA '53, MD '57, and his wife, L'Nell (Walker) Starkey, BA '53, of Victoria, Texas, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary July 18, 2013. The Starkeys have a small ranch with a pecan orchard, which keeps them busy. They have five children and 14 grandchildren.
Evelyn Tolbert, BA '53, is living near Gonzales, Texas, on land that she lived on all her life before attending Baylor. She married Arthur Tolbert in November 1952 and taught elementary school in San Antonio for 36 years.

Momma Anne's House became a ministry for Anne (Vinson) Dudley, BA '54, of Waco, out of her desire to make the transition to American life easier for the children of missionaries. Anne was married to Dwight Dudley, BA '54, until his death, and returned to Waco as a minister to Baylor students. Momma Anne's House is on the edge of Baylor's campus and has been adopted by Vertical as part of their ministry.
Dr. Larry Goldbeck, BA '54, MD '58, writes, “I'm looking forward to my 60th Baylor reunion next year. The time has flown! My wife [Nancy (Reed) Goldbeck, BA '55] and I will celebrate our 59th anniversary this year. We moved back to Texas from northern California in 2004. Nancy stays active with bridge and I spend my time mostly at work in the Houston area as an in-hospital emergency physician and playing mediocre golf and tennis. Max Simpson, BA '56, MS '58, was recently honored by the Waxahachie (Texas) ISD Ex Student Association with the Outstanding Educators Award for 2013. Simpson served 28 years with Waxahachie ISD as assistant superintendent and school trustee. He began his career as a teacher and principal in Waco ISD. Simpson also worked at Region XII Education Center in Waco and served 13 years in the Baylor School of Education as director and supervisor of student teachers. He and his wife, Earlane (Curb) Simpson, BS '55, have lived in Waxahachie for 43 years. Margaret (McClelland) Swofford, BA '58, and husband, Donald, of Marshall, Texas, are avid followers of Baylor Basketball. They went on a Baylor trip to New Zealand and Australia in 2012. The Swoffords attended Oasis at Baylor in the fall and signed up for another Baylor trip to South America.

Billy Joe Kelley, BS '59, of Florence, Ala., is a retired district manager for State Farm Insurance and is married to Carolyn (Young) Kelley, BA '58. He played in the 1957 Sugar Bowl and was co-captain of the team in 1958. He was later drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles.
Rev. Allen C. Liles, BA '59, of Bloomington, Minn., has authored Sitting with God, published recently by Westbow Press. The book highlights the benefits of using the daily practice of meditation to establish a closer connection to the indwelling Christ Spirit. Camille (McCann) Langford, BA '63, MS '64, of Lampasas, Texas, earned a master of arts degree in 2013 from Morehead University. She also earned a master's degree in English from Tarleton State University in 2003.
David Turner, BA '63, of Clarksville, Ga., has published a book of poetry. He has continued competitive running for the Atlanta Running Club where he was National Age Group Champion twice. Turner is retired and serves locally as an interim minister.
Linda Wigner, BA '63, of Lubbock, received a liver transplant in 2009 from Baylor Medical Center in Dallas. She has attended every Baylor Homecoming of her class since graduated from '63 (every five years).
Dr. Franklin C. Williams, Jr., BA '63, has appeared in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World since 1995. He is a life member of the Baylor Alumni Association and has been a member of the Heritage Club since 2013.

Harold, '64, and Kaye (McLerran) Hyde, BBA '63, of Cumming, Ga., were married for 50 years as of Dec. 28, 2012. They moved to the Atlanta area in 1963. Now retired, the Hydes have two married daughters and six grandchildren.

Fred Miller, BA '65, is producer of Angels Sing, a family Christmas movie that opened Nov. 2. Starring Harry Connick Jr., Connie Britton, Lyle Lovett, Kris Kristofferson, and Willie Nelson, the film is co-executive produced by Randall Dark, who is married to Kristen Cox Dark, BA '94. Other Baylor alumni who worked on the film include Michael Goodman, BA '10, and Don Howe, BA '95. All of the alums reside in Austin. Miller visited Baylor classes throughout the movie-making process. Alfred “Al” Coward, '67, of Norfolk, Va., writes, “I never graduated, but I worked as a deputy sheriff in charge of booking and was later appointed to become a magistrate in the Norfolk office. We issued warrants and set bonds. Thanks to Baylor that I was able to handle such a job.”
Dr. Donald L. Donham, BS '67, has been appointed Distinguished Professor of Anthropology at the University of California, Davis. His latest book, Violence in a Time of Liberation: Murder and Ethnicity at a South African Gold Mine, 1994, was published by Duke University Press.

Preston F. Kirk, BA '68, and his wife, Ronda (Massey) Kirk, BA '68, of Spicewood, Texas, have appeared in more than 26 Texas-made movies, in national and regional commercials, web spots and on seven TV series or pilots since 2003. Preston has performed in more than 25 stage productions and Ronda has been in approximately ten stage shows.

Barbara (Briley) Sollock, BA '68, and her husband, Paul, live in Cypress, Texas. They are retired and enjoy their two daughters, two son-in-laws and their 10-year-old twin granddaughters. Paul is a retired NASA engineer, where he worked for 38 years. Barbara is a former schoolteacher and is now enjoying teaching her grandchildren.
Dr. Cary Tanamachi, BS '68, has had an orthopedic surgery practice in Mesquite, Texas, since 1976. He has been on the UIL Medical Advisory Committee of Texas since 2001 and is serving his 28th year on the Mesquite ISD Board of Education.
After 22 years in Canada, Mary Sue (Lollar) Tiffin, BM '68, and her husband, Doug Tiffin, moved to San Jose, Calif., in 2001 to continue their ministry. They returned to Texas in 2005. After serving for years as a seniors director and choir leader, Mary is the assistant director and drummer for a 150-voice seniors' choir. The Tiffins reside in Cedar Hill, Texas.

Dr. Alice Anne (Coleman) Brunn, MA '73, PhD '75, writes, “After retiring from Baylor University, I was in private practice with my husband, Richard Brunn, PsyD '75, in Waco. Seven years ago, I took a position at St. Matthews University in Grand Cayman teaching behavioral medicine. I am also the dean of students. Our children and four grandsons live in the Los Angeles area.”
Brenda Y. Burton, BS '73, of San Antonio, retired June 7, 2013, after 40 years of teaching. She spent 25 years teaching kindergarten, ten years working with dyslexic students, and five years in reading intervention.
Frances (Mason) Freeman, BA '73, of Hewitt, Texas, retired from AT&T in 2001 after 28 years there. She volunteers at Mission Waco, Food for Families, Caritas, and First Baptist Church Lorena.
Gary N. Frey, BA '73, of Sugar Land, Texas, is vice-chair of the Department of Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics at the University of Texas School of Dentistry in Houston. In January 2013, Frey was also appointed interim chair of the Department of General Practice and Dental Public Health.
Nancy (Greene) Johnson, BA '73, MA '75, lived in France for many years, where she taught ESL courses. She and her husband, James, are enjoying life now in Petaluma, Calif.
Dr. Bill Leinart, BS '73, has been practicing dentistry for 36 years in Mesquite, Texas. He and his wife, Cynthia, have two children: Matt has graduated with master's degrees in architecture and business from Texas Tech and Amy is Baylor senior.

Jan Wynn, BS '73, of Gatesville, Texas, retired in 2011 but was asked to come back part-time with Gatesville ISD in 2012. She was the runner-up for the Outstanding Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher for the State of Texas in 1986.

Dr. Mark Bumpus, BSEd '74, recently participated in a four-week sabbatical through Regents Park College at the University of Oxford. His sabbatical topic was “Great Preachers and Their Preaching in Great Britain.” He studied the ministries of 21 preachers in England and Scotland, and traveled to the sites of their former pastorates. Marilea (Whatley) Lewis, BA '75, JD, '78,
of Dallas, is now managing shareholder and chief operating officer of Godwin Lewis PC, a trial and appellate law firm. A former district judge, Lewis assumed her new role on Dec. 1, 2013. In 2012, she became one of the few women in history to become the named shareholder of a major Texas law firm. She joined Godwin Lewis in 2011 after serving as Judge of the 330th District Court in Dallas from 2002-10.

Dr. Linda Leavell, BA '76, of Fayetteville, Ark., has authored Holding On Upside Down: The Life and Work of Marianne Moore (Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 2013: 480 pages). Leavell is a Professor Emerita from Oklahoma State University and the daughter of the late longtime Baylor English faculty member, Dr. Frank Leavell. On Oct. 28, she gave a lecture at Baylor on Moore, once widely hailed as America's greatest living poet.

Dorothea Anne Robinson, BA '78, of Gaithersburg, Md., has worked more than 30 years in the U.S. Department of Defense as a civilian and is heading back to Afghanistan on her second deployment.

Dr. David L. Cook, BSEd '80, of Fredericksburg, Texas, has authored Johnny's U.S. Open: Golf's Sacred Journey, the sequel to his bestselling first book, Seven Days in Utopia: Golf's Sacred Journey. Nearly one million people have been to the related site didhemaketheputt.com. The sequel takes readers on a deeper faith walk and is full of creative golf ideas. Since the original book - which was also made into a movie in 2011 - tens of thousands of people have also either visited or had their lies buried at the golf course in Utopia, Texas, both the real life and fictionalized setting for the books.

Dr. Ronald Guy, BA '81, is now director of ear, nose, and throat services for St. John Physician Group in Tulsa, Okla. He has been married to his wife, Jodi, for 22 years. Guy earned his medical degree from Texas A&M in 1986 before specializing in ear, nose, and throat at LSU.
Sue (Butler) Kater, BS '81, of Phoenix, Ariz., has co-edited Understanding Community Colleges, a book in the “Core Concepts in Higher Education” series (Routledge, 2013: 263 pages). The work is a comprehensive review of the community college landscape and bridges the gap between research and practice.
John D. Penn, BBA '81, JD '82, has joined the Dallas office of Perkins Coie LLP as a partner in the firm's bankruptcy and restructuring practice. He was most recently a partner with Haynes and Boone LLP in Fort Worth, where he spent 27 years, first as an associate and then as a partner. After spending 40 years in education, Dr. Edward Lindsay, EdD '82, retired in 2004. He then worked part-time in insurance before fully retiring this year. As a disabled veteran from the Vietnam era, he received honorable discharges from the U.S. Army and later from the Texas State Guard. He and his wife, Cora, reside in Fort Worth. Former KWBU-TV producer Joani Livingston, BA '82, of McGregor, Texas, has co-produced a health care documentary, “Primary Concern,” airing nationally on PBS stations. The documentary website includes the trailer: livingstonmckay.com/primary-concern.

Each year, “The President's Own” Marine Band hosts a national concerto competition for woodwinds, brass and percussionists who have not yet completed high school. Twelve finalists are chosen based on recorded submissions and flown to Washington, D.C., for the final round of competition. The spring 2013 winner was Spencer Sosnowski, now a freshman music (saxophone) major at Baylor from Rockwall, Texas. Sosnowski's teacher for the competition, Joey Resendez, turns out to be a Baylor School of Music graduate himself (Class of 2003). For winning the competition, Sosnowski got to perform with the Marine Band at a concert in March in Alexandria, Va. Among the members of the Marine Band was Gunnery Sergeant Steve Longoria, BME '96, the ensemble's lead alto saxophone player. Resendez and Longoria both studied saxophone at Baylor with>Dr. Michael Jacobson - who is now Sosnowski's saxophone professor. The student winner, the student winner's teacher, and the lead alto sax in this prestigious ensemble all attended Baylor and studied with the same Baylor professor.

Michael Hillman, BBA '02, MBA '03, recruited donors from among his friends and business contacts to donate money to the city of West, Texas, for each point Baylor scored in their Oct. 5 game against West Virginia. More than 30 people joined Hillman; their joint commitment came out to upwards of $500 for each point Baylor scored. The Bears' 73 points against the Mountaineers represented Baylor's highest total since 1929. Hillman and the other donors raised nearly $40,000 for West, which will go to renovate West City Park and build a memorial to the fallen first responders.
Matt Wiede, BFA '02, has written and illustrated Star, Circle, Baylor: A Little Bear Shapes Book. The 16-page board book helps teach babies and toddlers their shapes through Baylor objects and traditions. The book is published by Baylor Press' Big Bear Books label, which also printed Wiede's 123 Baylor: A Little Bear Counting Book in 2012.

Robert Quiroga, BBA '04, of San Antonio, was inducted into the National Hispanic Sports Hall of Fame on Oct. 5., 2013. At Baylor, he was a three-year starter and All Big 12 selection at wide receiver, catching 131 passes for 1,478 yards and nine touchdowns in 46 games for the Bears. He also returned 31 kickoffs for 752 yards and two touchdowns. He was also an All-American running track for the Bears. After signing with the Baltimore Ravens, Quiroga played one season in the CFL with the Ottawa Renegades, and has played seven seasons in the AFL, most recently with the San Antonio Talons. As part of a contest to design uniforms for the Dallas Mavericks, owner Mark Cuban selected the work of Geoff Case, BA '05, as one of the top ten designs out of thousands of entries. Case's design, which incorporates the Dallas skyline, received the second-most public votes in the contest. The winning design will be announced soon and used during the 2015-16 season.

Dr. Mark Buechsel, PhD '06, of Fort Wayne, Ind., has authored Sacred Land: Sherwood Anderson, Midwestern Modernism, and the Sacramental Vision of Nature (Kent State UP, 2013: 268 pages). Buechsel shows that Sherwood Anderson, Willa Cather, and F. Scott Fitzgerald, among others, turned to two potential sources for grounding their region's and nation's life authentically: nature itself and the model provided by the traditional sacramental culture of medieval Europe. The result was a new sacramental vision of how life in the Midwest - and, by extension, life in modern America - might be lived differently.

Ben Humeniuk, BA '08, MSEd '11, of Conroe, Texas, has illustrated a graphic novel called Makin' It, authored by Kirk Blackard. The story is of a kid who grows up in a rough environment, makes some bad choices, and ends up changing his life for the better with the help of an uncle who mentors him. “We developed it for use with incarcerated and at-risk youth here in the Houston area, and it's set up in 11 chapters that correlate to the principles of step-based recovery programs,” writes Ben. The book is an ideal resource for mentors who work with troubled and under-resourced kids.

Morgan Baker, BSFCS '10, of Dallas, has been named one of four top assistant buyers for Neiman Marcus stores across the U.S. There are 97 assistant buyers for the stores, and Baker was named for the Dallas corporate buying office, which serves 41 stores. Baker works in in the beauty division.
Lauren Faldet, BBA '10, and Cody Campbell, BSME '10, of Plano, Texas, were married June 22, 2013, at Perkins Chapel in Dallas. The wedding included a Baylor Bear groom's cake, and the couple departed with their guests flinging green and gold ribbon wands. Lauren works as an advertising executive for Ansira and Cody is a mechanical engineer with Halliburton. The couple resides in Dallas.

Filipina Women's Network (FWN) is a nonprofit professional association for women of Philippine ancestry based in the U.S. Duran-Stanton was also selected to be on the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) panel, which discussed how to mentor and influence young women in choosing these fields.

Sutter's CNN.com article titled “10 Heroes of Income Equality, USA” on Oct. 29, 2013. Hodge has worked to give poorer residents of Lake Providence, La., a voice in their community and to meet basic needs. Soon she will also graduate from Truett Seminary. She previously served with the Waco Regional Baptist Association as hunger ministry coordinator.

Dr. Charles E. Myers, BA '40, of Ridgeland, Miss., died Sept. 8, 2013, at age 95. He pastored churches in Oklahoma, Texas, and Mississippi and was very active in Baptist circles. Among his survivors are his wife, Beatrice (Wilbanks) Myers, BA '39, his daughter Martha (Myers) Sellers, BA '69, and her husband Ron Sellers, BA '68, MA '72, and his grandson, Scott Sellers, JD '93.
Mary-Lou (McCaulley) Rabun, BA '41, of Houston, died Dec. 3, 2013, at age 94. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years at Baptist Temple in Houston and taught in Houston ISD for 23 years. Rabun was married to Arthur Rabun for 37 years until his death. Dr. William C. Smith, BA '41, died Nov. 6, 2013, in Carthage, Texas. He married Margaret Eugenia Gill, BS '43, in 1943. Smith was a captain in the U.S. Army before starting his medical practice in Carthage in 1948. He was named Physician of the Year in 1995 by the Texas Academy of Family Physicians. Among his survivors are four children, Carolyn Reid, BMEd '68, Robby Smith, BBA '70, Jamey Smith, BS '71, MBA '72, and Elizabeth Yarborough, eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Joseph Curtis Holcomb, BA '43, of Frisco, Texas, died June 11 at age 91. He was a school administrator and served in the U.S. Navy. Among his survivors is his daughter, Marcia (Holcomb) Cooper, BA '70.
Beth J. Jablonowski, BBA '43, of Waco, died Nov. 28, 2013, at age 91. Following graduation, she worked at Scott & White. She married Edgar Jablonowski, BA '42, in 1945. They purchased Lane's Interiors in 1956 and owned it for 43 years. She was a member of the Junior League of Waco, the Baylor Foundation and the Kappa Alpha Thetas. Dr. Carol (McCall) Woodfin, BA '44, MA '49, of Port Aransas, Texas, died Oct. 26, 2013, at age 90. She was a professor at Baylor and TSTC in Waco for 30 years, worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 14 years, and owned Woodfin Beach Houses in Port Aransas since the 1950s. She was a former Texas State DAR Regent, a loyal supporter of Baylor's Old Main Society and a member of several organizations.
Jeanette (Graham) Kemp, BS '46, of Fort Worth, died Aug. 13, 2013, at age 88. Jean married A.J. Kemp in 1949. They lived in Dimmitt before moving to Fort Worth in 1965 She served as a board member of the Van Cliburn Foundation and the Fort Worth Symphony. Kemp was a member of the Jewel Charity Ball, River Crest Country Club and Lecture Foundation.
Leona “Lee” (Farbstein) Rosenthal, BA '46, died Sept. 26, 2013, in Richmond, Va. She was 88. After a working in radio and television and in state politics in Texas and Idaho, she taught high school English in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and outside of Pittsburgh, Pa. She directed school plays and was a lifetime member of Hadassah, a volunteer organization of women motivated to strengthen ties with Israel.
Dr. J. Artie Browning, BS '47, of Lacey, Wash., died Nov. 3, 2013, at age 90. He served in the Navy during World War II and earned a doctorate from Cornell. He married Arra B. White in 1946. Browning spent 28 years teaching at Iowa State University and conducting research on crop diseases. He was head of the plant science department at Texas A&M from 1981-90. Browning authored or co-authored more than 100 publications. He worked in Israel as a Fulbright Scholar, served as president of the American Phytopathology Society, and was a master gardener.
Henry C. Grady Jr., BBA '48, formerly of Pampa, Texas, died Sept. 20, 2103, at age 91. He served in the Army during World War II. In 1957, he formed his own accounting firm, H.C. Grady Jr. Inc. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Quick, in 1959, and his second wife, Marguerite Kirchman, in 2009.
Mary Nell (West) McElhannon, '48, of Waco, died Dec. 3, 2013, at age 87. She was a member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church, D.A.R., and the Baylor Round Table. Her husband, Dr. Joe McElhannon, BA '47, MA '47, a retired Baylor history professor, preceded her in death.

Paul S. Curtis, '50, of Fort Worth, died Nov. 9, 2013, at age 84. He attended Baylor and graduated from the University of Texas. He served in Germany in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Curtis had a long career with the Texas Division of AAA. After retirement in 1987, he worked for AMR, a commercial aviation business. Among his survivors is his wife of 56 years, Alice Curtis, BA '52.
Ben C. Lauderdale, BA '50, of Tyler, Texas, died Nov. 28, 2013, at age 86. In 1945, he joined the U.S. Army and served in Japan. At Baylor, he met and married Joyce Hightower, BA '51. Lauderdale worked as a teacher and principal for 30 years in Tyler ISD. He also was a music minister and taught piano. Among his survivors is his son, Lane Lauderdale, BBA '81, MBA '01.
Andrew D. DiFiore BA '51, JD '53, of Houston, died Aug. 18, 2013, at age 85. He played football and baseball at Brooklyn University before joining the Army, serving in Panama. He earned two degrees from Baylor and moved to Houston in 1953. An attorney, DiFiore held a private practice for 40 years.
Laura Allen Weaver Weatherford, BA '52, of Gatesville, Texas, died Aug. 20, 2013. She was 81. Weatherford was an elementary school teacher in Midland, Austin, and Gatesville. She also served in the Mission Service Corps with the North American Mission Board in American Samoa, and taught ESL classes at Iglesia Hispana de Gatesville. Survivors include her children, Susan Kitchens, BSEd '78, and Dr. Vaughn Weatherford, BBA '81, PhD '91.
Kenneth Lawrence Scarborough, BBA '53, of Sneads Ferry, N.C., died July 30, 2013, at age 81. A former lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps, he served in Korea and Vietnam and was interred at Quantico National Cemetery in Virginia. Scarborough volunteered giving legal assistance to the Marines at Camp Lejeune. He also served on the Onslow Memorial Hospital Board. He is survived by his wife, Tazuko Kawanaka Scarborough, three children, and four grandchildren.
Dr. William T. Skinner, BS '53, of Dallas, died Aug. 26, 2013, at age 85. A neuropsychiatrist, he graduated from Baylor and UT Southwestern Medical School. He retired from St. Paul Hospital in 2008, after many decades of service.
Malcolm Tisdel, JD '53, of Plainview, Texas, died July 28 at age 85. He served for three years in the Army Air Corps. After graduating from Baylor, Tisdel returned to Plainview and practiced law for 60 years. Alton Homer Deviney Jr., BS '54, MSEd '56, of Eddy, Texas, died Nov. 5, 2013, at age 80. He entered the U.S. Air Force through Baylor's ROTC program. Flying helicopters was his passion. He had numerous tours of duty, including Vietnam, Japan, and Korea, and retired as a colonel after 28 years of service. Among his survivors are his wife of 59 years, Nancy Deviney, two daughters, and brother, Pat Deviney, BA '60.
Margaret (Alsobrook) Hardwick, '54, of Sunnyvale, Calif., died June 5, 2013, at age 80. She attended Baylor from 1950-52. Hardwick volunteered in church, school and civic organizations, in addition to being a legal and church secretary. Love of missions took her to seven countries. Gordon L. Riley, BBA '55, of Waco, died Dec. 8, 2013, at age 80. He played football at Baylor and served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force. Frances E. Snow, BSN '55, of Rosenthal, Texas, died Oct. 24, 2013, at age 83. Snow was a graduate of East Tennessee State University, Baylor, and the University of Texas. She retired from the Baylor University School of Nursing. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Carl J. Snow, BS '64. Dr. Ben D. Mosley, BA '56, of Bethany, Okla, died Nov. 14, 2013, at age 82. He committed to fulltime ministry in 1950. Mosley also served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He and his family served three years as missionaries in Liberia, West Africa. Part of his ministry included many mission trips to other countries. Among his survivors are his wife of 60 years, Donna, and three daughters, including Laura Gay Adams, BSEd '85.
Ruth (Parker) Graves, BA '56, of Annandale, Va., died Sept. 10, 2013, at age 78. As executive director and then national president of Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), she expanded the reach of the nonprofit children's literacy organization from 313,000 to 2.7 million kids per year and increased the number of volunteers from 8,000 to 200,000. She also helped establish a childcare program for migrant farmworkers. Graves moved to Washington, D.C., in 1961 to work with the President's Committee on Equal Employment Opportunity. She joined RIF in 1975. Graves guided the organization into alliances with the U.S. government, major corporations and foundations, and hundreds of service organizations. Among her numerous honors, she was recognized with the Distinguished Alumni Award. Survivors include her husband, Glenn Graves, BA '56.
Jim B. Harris, BS '56, of Houston, died Aug. 15, 2011. He worked as a geologist for Sinclair, Atlantic Richfield, and McCormick Oil & Gas. His is survived by his wife, Linda, daughter, Janet, and son, Greg.
Charles Burbank, BA '58, of Houston, passed away Dec. 20, 2012. He and wife, Marilyn (Mobley) Burbank, BA '58, had been married for more than 54 years. They attended their 50th Homecoming at Baylor. Their children and their spouses attended Baylor. Marilyn writes that she hopes that their grandchildren will follow the family tradition of being Baylor Bears.
Charles Melvin Rimmel, BBA '58, of Houston, died Oct. 9, 2013, at age 84. He served in the Army during the Korean War. In 1968, he moved to Houston and started Medical Dental Management, Inc. Rimmel had recently sold his business and planned to retire on Nov. 1, 2013. Among his survivors are his wife, Bonnie, and daughter, Juanita (Rimmel) Atkins, BS '80. Sue (Morrow) Moore, BM '59, of Schertz, Texas, died March 2, 2013, at age 76. She was a gifted piano player and musician. Moore was a member of Dr. Euell Porter's Acapella Choir and was the pianist for Porter's other choirs during her years at Baylor. She was a church pianist and taught music for more than 20 years at elementary schools in Abilene and San Antonio. She was married to Sam Moore, BS '60, for 54 years.
Dr. Robert S. Fitch, BS '59, EdD '72, died Aug. 19, 2013, in Louisville, Ky. He was 82. An Eagle Scout and Mason, Fitch also was an Army and Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was employed with Gardner-Denver Steel, GAF Corporation, Gates Learjet, Brown-Mackie College, and Adams County Schools in Colorado. Upon retirement, Fitch relocated to Carrollton, Ky., where he served as science teacher.
Richard F. Perley, BBA '59, of Waco, died Aug. 31, 2013, at age 84. He served in the U.S. Air Force in Korea. Perley's 30-year IBM career took him from Waco to Fort Worth and finally to Endicott, N.Y. In 1984, he moved to Waco where he taught at TSTC. A dedicated Lady Bears basketball fan, he also served as president of the Waco Sunrise Rotary Club and on the state board of the American Cancer Society. Joyce (Pullin) Davis, BA '60, MSEd '67, of Granbury, Texas, died Sept. 12, 2013, at age 86. She married William D. Davis, a former Baylor Trustee, in 1946. Davis had been a member of Waco's Columbus Avenue Baptist Church for 47 years. She was an elementary teacher and principal for Waco ISD. Among her survivors is her daughter, Marilyn Pitcher, BA '70.
Avonnell (Bolton) Ballou, BA '61, passed away Aug. 1, 2013, following a lengthy Alzheimer's illness. Funeral services, officiated by Dr. Robert B. Sloan Jr., were conducted at First Baptist Church, Shreveport, La. Following a lengthy career in education, she and her husband, Rev. Bill Ballou, BA '60, retired in Tyler in 2005. Ronald “Ronnie” Goodwin, BBA '64, JD '69, of San Angelo, Texas, died Dec. 12, 2013, at age 72. He was earned All Southwest Conference honors in football and baseball and is a member of Baylor Athletics Hall of Fame. He played professional football for six years for the Philadelphia Eagles and was named to the NFL All Rookie team. During the off seasons, Goodwin attended Baylor Law School. Dave Campbell's Baylor Bears Insiders Report named Goodwin as one of 20 best athletes for the 20th century at Baylor. He was an attorney in San Angelo for nearly 40 years. Among his survivors are his wife of 49 years, Sharon Goodwin, his son, Brad Goodwin, BBA '89, and his daughter, Kristi (Goodwin) Haas, BA '93.
Dr. David C. Hildebrand, BA '65, DDS '69, of Dallas, died Nov. 8, 2013, at age 70. He was on Baylor's track team and later coached several soccer teams, including Baylor men's club soccer. Hildebrand practiced restorative dentistry for 33 years in Dallas. He served on faculty at the Pankey Dental Institute in Florida for almost 30 years. Internationally he presented seminars on all subjects of restorative dentistry and served on dental mission trips to Romania. Among his survivors are his wife of 46 years, Carol Jamison Hildebrand, BA '65, MA '68, and four children, including Dr. Brody Hildebrand, BA '95, Dr. Sloan Hildebrand, BS '96, and Dr. Jed Hildebrand, BS '99.
Emily (Slone) McKinney, BSN '68, died Dec. 8, 2013, in Richardson, Texas. She was 67. A registered nurse, McKinney spent 28 years teaching women's health, maternal and neonatal nursing at Tarrant County College, Grayson County College, and Baylor. She was for 22 years a co-author of two major obstetrical nursing textbooks and numerous other study guides. In 1999, she was named one of DFW's Great 100 Nurses. For several years she was on the editorial board of The Journal of Obstetrical, Gynecologic and Neonatal Nursing. Among her survivors are her husband of 45 years, Michael McKinney, BA '70.
Gary Q. Frields, BFA '69, of Nacogdoches, Texas, died Aug. 24, 2013, at age 67. He played football for Baylor. After serving as a motion picture specialist in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, he earned a graduate degree at Stephen F. Austin University's School of Art. Frields served as chairman of the art department for Kilgore College from 1978-86 before returning to SFA to teach there. He married Tamara Robertson in 2010.

In 1986, he joined the staff of San Angelo Community Medical Center where he served as both director of trauma and chairman of the board of directors from 1995-2003. He continued to serve as a director until his passing. Among his survivors are his wife, Alicia Gibson, BSEd '77, his daughter Jourdan Gibson, BBA '03, and his son, Clay Gibson, BBA '03.
Robin Douglas Orr, JD '76, of Big Spring, Texas, died Sept. 1, 2013. He was 61. He practiced law in Bay City, Texas, from 1976-2000. Orr married his wife, Kaye, in 1977. He served as the assistant district attorney for the 118th Judicial District Court including Howard, Martin, and Glasscock counties for more than 13 years.

Scott G. Balke, BA '80, of Winter Park, Fla., died Aug. 28, 2013, at age 56. He started a career in banking in Houston and continued with positions in London, Hawaii and Florida.
Troy Wolff, BA '89, MA '96, of Seattle, Wash., died Sept. 14, 2013. He was 46. Wolff was chair of the English department at Shoreline Community College, where he had worked since 1996. During his tenure, he taught abroad in Costa Rica and Europe. Wolff also worked at Camp Ozark, a Christian sports camp in Arkansas, and he was co-author of Seattle and King County: Gateway to the Pacific Northwest.
1990s
Amy Williamson, BBA '96, of McGregor, Texas, died Dec. 23, 2013, at age 47. A certified senior professional of human resources, she was director of talent management for Baylor University Human Resources since 2010. Among her survivors are her parents, Dr. James L. Williamson, BA '57, and Glenda (Coward) Williamson, BA '58, her son, Justin Ramon, and her sister, Shelly Wilkison, BA '84. Memorials may be made to Baylor University Scholarship Fund.
2000s
Stevie (Crowder) Patrick, BA '04, of Frisco, Texas, died Sept. 26, 2013, at age 31. At Baylor, she was involved in Chi Omega. In 2007, she started her own personal training business, Texas Boot Camp, in Frisco. Among her survivors are husband, Damen, son, Ryder, and siblings, Tyler Crowder, BBA '05, Conner Crowder, BBA '10, and Bailee Crowder, BA '11.
Cari Lea Ezennia, BA '07, of Lake Dallas, Texas, died on Aug. 11, 2013, at age 27. She was an avid Baylor supporter and beloved member of Alpha Kappa Alpha.
John Wootters died Jan. 29, 2013, in Kerrville, Texas. He attended Baylor in the 1940s. A top writer in the hunting and sportsman's field, Wootters' work appeared in publications such as Sports Afield, Outdoor Life, Hunting, Guns and Ammo, Gray's Sporting Journal, and Field and Stream. His book Hunting Trophy Deer became a classic. At the peak of his career, he produced 100,000 words a month. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Jeanne (McRae) Wootters, BA '47, MA '50.
Harold Clark Simmons, of Dallas, died Dec. 28, 2013, at age 82. An entrepreneur and philanthropist, he ultimately built a chain of 100 drugstores that he sold in 1973 to Eckerd Corp. Simmons was founder, chairman and CEO of Contran Corporation, a holding company. He and his wife, Annette, have been extensively involved in philanthropy, including at Baylor. Simmons established The Harold Simmons Foundation in 1988.
W. Eldon Bebee, of Austin, died Dec. 19, 2013, at age 89. His wife, Catherine, passed away Sept. 3, 2013. Bebee served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He had a successful banking career, becoming the president of North Austin State Bank in 1956. He was involved as chairman of deacons and prayer ministry at Hyde Park Baptist Church. Bebee also served on both the Baylor University and the Baptist Foundation Board of Trustees. The Bebees had four children, including Carye Gillen, BA '71, and Donald Ray Bebee, BA '74, seven grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.
Inez (Foster) Bull, of Waco, died Aug. 29, 2013. She was married to her husband of 57 years, Clifton F. Bull. They had one daughter, Sheri (Bull) Anderson, BA '68. The Bulls lived in South Texas until retiring to Bosque County. Bull lived the last 14 years in Waco, where she enjoyed volunteering at First Baptist Church. She was passionate fan of Baylor football and Lady Bear basketball. She also supported endowed scholarships at Baylor.
Dr. Welby C. Edwards, of Tyler, Texas, died Sept. 9, 2013, at age 98. He was in business in Tyler for 80 years. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was an East Texas Baptist University trustee, where he and his wife, Davida, funded the creation of the School of Nursing in 1989. They also generously supported Baylor. Among his survivors is son, D.M. Edwards, BBA '76.
Lorraine B. Hoppenstein, of Waco, passed away Sept. 22, 2013, at age 91. She attended the University of Texas and the University of Houston. She was married to David Hoppenstein, AB '37, JD '39, for 65 years until his death on May 30, 2013. She helped in her husband's real estate business, volunteered and served as a board member at Congregation Agudath Jacob, Hadassah, and the Jewish Federation of Waco. The Hoppensteins supported many entities, including Baylor. Among her survivors are a son, Norman Hoppenstein, BS '76, JD '79, and a daughter, Marsha Lev.
