Bears On Air: What Does Baylor Mean to You?

Students Interviewing Students

From time to time, Baylor’s social media team invites students on campus to sit down for a moment and reflect on a simple prompt. Recently, students were asked: What does Baylor mean to you? Their answers covered a wide range of responses: Friendships. Belonging. Challenging. Community. Value. An opportunity to pursue dreams. Here are a few of their thoughts:

“I could answer that in a lot of different ways, honestly. I have been very much blessed by Baylor’s community just having really encouraging friends who push me to be stronger in faith, academically and — honestly — just in friendship. It’s been a sweet community. It’s been hard and awesome, but overall Baylor’s a huge blessing and I’m really grateful for it.”

Megan, freshman

“Coming into Baylor, I was pretty unsure of whether or not I wanted to come here. But after being here for four years, Baylor has definitely become a symbol of all the connections and relationships I’ve made over these four years. It has been a great time, and I will always cherish the friendships that I’ve made here. So, honestly, that’s what Baylor means to me. It means friendships and making new connections.”

Tath, senior

“Baylor has been such a beautiful experience. Getting to come here — I’m getting my Ph.D. — I expected it to be stressful, but it’s been this really lovely community of people who support each other, and we’re always there for each other whether it’s in studies or out of studies. It’s meant belonging and friendship and finally getting to feel like I fit and I belong somewhere.”

Claire, graduate student

“For me, Baylor means family, because my entire family went here and so when I was deciding where to go to college, it was really cool to pick a school that I have so many family connections to. I get to have some of the same experiences that my parents and grandparents did. I think it’s really cool to get to do that.”

Allison, junior

“Baylor means almost everything to me. It’s given me a place where I can continue doing what I love in my running. I run for Baylor’s track team. It’s given me a place where I can continue my studies while also expanding myself holistically and allowing me to further keep in touch with my Christian faith, which I really truly appreciate. Baylor means everything to me right now.”

Aiden, freshman

“Baylor — it means an opportunity to pursue dreams for me. It’s a place where I can grow and be a better person.”

Aaron, junior

The common themes in the responses reinforce a lasting truth, one that has been echoed in the responses from Baylor Alumni “forever down the years” as they reflect on their Baylor experience: the value and quality of a Baylor education and the caring community that students experience from the moment they set foot on campus makes Baylor University a truly special place.
