A Work in Progress

Renovations on track in Tidwell Bible Building

Critical renovations continue on Tidwell Bible Building to preserve the beauty and improve the building’s academic spaces with the hope of having it back online for use by students, faculty and staff in the fall.

In addition to improving infrastructure, the renovation of Tidwell’s 57,000 square feet will dramatically expand and enhance academic instruction, modernize the learning environment, provide collaboration spaces for students and shape faculty offices for greater interaction with colleagues and students.

“It’s exciting to see the progress of the renovation project. The architects and builders have done a remarkable job of preserving the integrity of the beautiful limestone carvings depicting scenes from the Old and New Testaments and the stained glass windows that shined in Miller Chapel,” Baylor President Linda A. Livingstone, Ph.D., said.

Thanks to a lead gift from the Sunderland Foundation, the renovated Tidwell will house the Sunderland Academic Center, which includes the following:

  • Small- and large-sized, flexible classrooms that will enhance teaching.
  • Administrative and faculty offices — previously spread throughout the building — will be consolidated into common spaces that creates synergies in collaboration, research and programs. This area includes a new mezzanine level in the high ceiling of Miller Chapel and maintains the beautiful stained glass windows that extend the length of the structure.
  • Greater accessibility and modern infrastructure throughout the building to enable technology-enhanced learning while also improving energy efficiency.
  • Group meeting and work spaces, and graduate student workspace to facilitate greater engagement.

Other enhancements include a new roof and windows and an elevator to the top floors of Tidwell for the first time in the building’s history.
