Six Ways to Enjoy Waco This Summer
Passing through Waco this summer? Although campus life slows down in the summer months, Waco still offers a variety of indoor and outdoor activities to make the most of your time and help beat (or enjoy) the heat.
Cameron Park and Cameron Park Zoo
Cameron Park provides acres of shaded hiking and biking trails, scenic overlooks, playgrounds, a 23-hole disc golf course and a world-class zoo. This makes it the perfect place for all ages to spend a summer day.
Museums
Waco hosts a variety of museums of historical and archaeological significance to fit all interests. The Mayborn Museum Complex, Waco Mammoth National Monument, Dr Pepper Museum and Texas Ranger Hall of Fame are available with a small admission fee. Baylor’s Martin Museum of Art features rotating exhibitions and free admission to all guests.
Waco Downtown Farmers Market
Since 2011, the Waco Downtown Farmers Market has offered a variety of vendors serving up local produce and products every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Grab made-to-order food items or stock up your pantry with farm-fresh veggies, seasonal fruits and artisan home goods.
Live Music
Common Grounds and The Backyard are two popular concert venues, and the historic Waco Hippodrome theater welcomes a variety of touring acts. Enjoy live music and delicious pizza on the patio of Slow Rise on the Brazos every Friday and Saturday evening. The Brazos Nights concert series at downtown Waco’s Indian Spring Park is free and features artists from a variety of genres. It has previously featured Shakey Graves, Robert Earl Keen, Thomas Csorba and The Commodores.
Topgolf
Whether you’re a scratch golfer or you’ve never picked up a golf club in your life, Topgolf has a game that can be enjoyed by the whole group. Take advantage of half-price bay fees on Tuesdays to save a buck. Make it a full day of entertainment and visit the Cinemark XD movie theater or Main Event next door.
Waco Surf
If you enjoy surfing or wakeboarding or you simply want a fun water park experience, Waco Surf is a Central Texas gem. The family-
friendly resort features a two-acre surf lake with areas for beginners to pros, a massive cable park, RV hook-ups, cabins, a hotel, water slides and what is rumored to be the world’s longest lazy river.
