Randall L. Waller
Randall Lionel Waller of Waco went to be with his Lord and Savior March 11 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Waller was born Sept. 1, 1948, in Ardmore, OK, to Chester and Voncile (Kepler) Waller. He married Karen Sue Hayes on Jan. 31, 1970. Waller graduated from Levelland High School in 1966, then went on to earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history from Texas Tech University. He also earned a master’s degree in English from West Texas State University and a doctorate from Texas A&M University.
Waller taught English at Texas State in San Marcos before moving to Waco in 1981, when he joined the English department at McLennan Community College for eight years. In 1988, Waller began teaching in Baylor’s Hankamer School of Business where he taught for 34 years.
His greatest joys in life were spending time and taking vacations with his wife and three grandchildren. He enjoyed eating out as well as shopping for the perfect suit and tie for the classroom, listening to music from Motown’s greatest hits to country, shooting skeet recreationally, watching movies with his son-in-law, coaching both of his children in sports and refereeing soccer.
Both he and his wife were longtime members of First Methodist Church, and Waller was one of the most faithful members of their Word and Deed Sunday School class. Waller always expressed how thankful he was for the love and support they gave him and his wife over the years.
