Opportunity Knocks at NSBE National Convention
In March, 14 members of Baylor’s National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) traveled to Kansas City, Missouri, for the 49th Annual NSBE Convention, which hosted more than 10,000 students and 300 companies. There, aspiring professional Black engineers encountered opportunities to advance their career goals, including internships, full-time employment and graduate studies.
Students networked not only with potential employers, but also with other NSBE chapters, establishing camaraderie within Baylor’s group and with other NSBE members across the nation. With interactions between young Black engineers representing their companies and students networking with recruiters, Black excellence and ambition were consistent themes.
More than half of the Baylor attendees received a job interview or summer job offer. For many first-time attendees from Baylor, this convention was “the real deal” — an eye opener into the broader network of NSBE and its potential for growth and excellence at the chapter level and beyond.
