Dorothy “Dot” Abernathy Miller

Dorothy “Dot” Abernathy Miller, BBA ’57, of Houston died May 20 at the age of 87. She died peacefully while surrounded by her family and caregivers. Dot was born Nov. 3, 1935, in Walnut Springs, Texas, to O.V. and Minnie Belle Abernathy. She graduated from Walnut Springs High School and Baylor University.

She met Matt S. Miller, BBA ’57, while attending Baylor, and they married Aug. 29, 1959. Matt preceded her in death. Soon after their marriage, they moved to New Orleans and eventually settled down in Houston, where they raised their family. She was a member of Tallowood Baptist Church, Pi Beta Phi sorority and the Junior League of Houston. Miller remained active with Baylor, and she and Matt attended many baseball and football games over the years. Together they remained committed to giving back to the community with their continued involvement with their churches, various Baylor foundations and other worthy causes.

Miller is survived by her two children, Michelle Chambers and Mark Miller, along with Michelle’s husband, John, and their three children, Andrew, BA ’22, Thomas, and James; and Mark’s wife, Alison, and their daughter, Alyssa, a current Baylor student.
