Donald Schmeltekopf, BA ’62, PhD, and Judy Schmeltekopf of China Spring, TX, established the Donald and Judy Schmeltekopf Endowed Scholarship in the Honors College and the Donald and Judy Schmeltekopf Endowed Lectureship in Ethics and Culture. Donald retired from Baylor in 2014.

Polly Stephenson Gilbert, BA ’63, and Leland “Lee” D. Smithson were married March 21, 2020. Her husband of 40 years, Ray Gilbert, died in 2017, and she is thankful to have found Lee, a fine Christian man who has a large family to enjoy with Polly’s large family. Polly and Lee live near her son Stephen Gilbert, her daughter-in-law Joanne Marshall (both Iowa State professors) and their sons Peter, 16, and Simon, 13. Polly and Lee are thankful to God. John C. Truesdell, BA ’63, penned his autobiography, Timeflash, which is a history of key global and domestic events from the late 19th century through the early 21st century. Truesdell includes his time at Baylor, which he hopes will be found interesting and somewhat humorous. He is a descendant of generations of patriots and writes about the momentous events and times of the life he has lived. This is a tale of generations that he relates from his own experience and stories passed on to him. There are a number of footnotes, but most of his story comes from his recollection and personal views socially, politically, and militarily. As Truesdell wrote Timeflash, it became more obvious that society was changing dramatically. Because he is an open-minded optimist, he still knows that the great majority of Americans are good, logical, smart and moral people. Judith Trice, BA ’65, and Harry Beavers, BS ’64, MS ’65, established the Edward R. and Willie Veda Boyd Endowed Scholarship Fund in memory of Judith’s maternal grandparents. The Boyd family worked hard to send their children to Baylor and were involved in the lives of many Baylor students.

The C. Vernon Hartline Jr. Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund in law was established by Hartline Barger LLP of Dallas in memory of C. Vernon Hartline Jr., BA ’68, JD ’73. Hartline was a longtime Dallas lawyer who loved practicing law and being in the courtroom. 

Andy Pittman, BS ’68, PhD, published a chapter titled “Transportation” in the eighth edition of Law for Recreation and Sport Managers (Kendall Hunt Publishing Company). This is Pittman’s 11th chapter to be published in that series. Additionally, he completed work on the third edition of Case Studies in Sport Law, released by Human Kinetics publishers.
