Baseball Claims First Big 12 Tournament Championship

Sophomore Shea Langeliers’ 11th-inning RBI single propelled Baylor to a 6-5 victory over Texas Christian University at Oklahoma City’s Bricktown Ballpark in May, giving the Bears their first tournament Big 12 Conference Championship title.

It was the program’s seventh title-game appearance since the event’s inception in 1997. The program also holds three regular-season Big 12 titles.

The Bears endured their share of drama en route to the win. Baylor tied the game 4-4 in the bottom of the ninth inning when the TCU right fielder lost a two-out fly ball in the sun. TCU recaptured the lead in the top of the 11th before the Bears again rallied in the bottom of the inning.

Baylor earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament as the second seed at the Stanford Regional. The Bears enjoyed a 13-game winning streak during the season and had 17 Academic All-Big 12 selections, a conference record. Senior pitcher Troy Montemayor tied Zane Carlson’s program record at 37 career saves, and sophomore right-hander Cody Bradford was named Big 12 Pitcher
of the Year, the first Baylor player so honored.
