Regents Name New Chair and Members

Following its spring meeting, the Baylor University Board of Regents announced Joel T. Allison will serve as its 2017-18 chair. In addition, the Board elected three new at-large Regents and welcomed the first alumni-elected Regent to the Board.

Board Chair Joel T. Allison served as president and chief executive officer of Baylor Scott & White Health for 17 years before retiring in February 2017. His career spanned more than four decades in healthcare management. Allison is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, and he was honored with the American Hospital Association’s 2017 Award of Honor in recognition of his exemplary contributions to the health and well-being of our nation. Allison earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and religion from Baylor in 1970 and a master’s degree in healthcare administration from Trinity University in 1973. He has served in a variety of leadership roles during his five previous years of service on the Baylor Board.

Melissa Purdy Mines, alumni-elected Regent, is vice president of client success at Bulldog Solutions, a marketing agency headquartered in Austin. She earned a BA in English and organization communication from Baylor in 1990 and was elected permanent class president for the Class of 1990. She earned an MBA and an MPA in 1996 from University of Texas at Austin.

Jill Manning, at-large Regent, retired as the vice president and chief financial officer of Efficient Networks Inc. of Dallas. Before her retirement, she was a Certified Public Accountant. Manning is a 1984 magna cum laude graduate of Baylor with a BBA in accounting and computer information systems.

Dr. Alicia D. H. Monroe, at-large Regent, is an academic leader, educator and physician. She is provost and senior vice president for academic and faculty affairs and professor of family medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Monroe is certified by the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Texas Academy of Family Physicians. She earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Brown University in 1973 and an MD from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1977.

Julie Turner, at-large Regent, is a longtime community volunteer from Dallas and has served on many nonprofit and charitable boards. She earned a BA in 1967 and MSEd in 1968 from Baylor. A full-time instructor at Baylor after graduating, she also was an instructor at McLennan Community College, San Jacinto College, the University of Houston, and Mesa [Arizona] Community College before commencing her commitment to community service.
