Baylor Named 'best Buy' In Fiske Guide To Colleges For 5th Consecutive Year

October 6, 2010

A best-selling guide for college-bound students and their parents has named Baylor University a "Best Buy" for a fifth straight year. Baylor is one of only 45 public and private colleges and universities in the United States, Canada and Great Britain -- and the only Texas Big 12 Conference institution -- to earn the designation.

The authors of the 2011 edition of The Fiske Guide to Colleges selected Baylor as a "Best Buy" based on ratings of the quality of the university's academic programs and campus experience in relation to the cost of attendance.

"We are flattered that the Fiske Guide recognizes Baylor as providing outstanding educational value," said Baylor President Ken Starr. "While we are committed to providing students an outstanding educational experience, we are also very sensitive to the cost of higher education. That is why we are dedicated to increasing the level of scholarship support that we are able to provide our students and their families."

Baylor is one of only two Texas universities to be named to Fiske's "Best Buy" list. Only one other Big 12 Conference institution -- Iowa State -- made the list.

The Fiske Guide to Colleges 2011 explores the academic climates and the social and extracurricular scenes at the "best and most interesting" schools in the United States, Canada and Great Britain. To qualify as a Best Buy institution, Fiske takes into account many qualities such as a four- or five-star academic rating, inexpensive or moderate price category, and quality of student life on campus.
