Football midseason honors announced

In October, senior linebacker Joe Pawelek was named one of 20 quarterfinalists for the Ronnie Lott Trophy, given annually to college football's top defensive player. He also was listed among 16 finalists for the William V. Campbell Trophy, honoring the sport's top scholar-athlete, and among 30 football players nominated for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, which recognizes seniors who have shown excellence academically and athletically.
Pawelek was joined by defensive tackle Phil Taylor on Phil Steele's Midseason All-America second team. The pair led a list of eight Bears who earned midseason all-Big 12 honors from the publication: Pawelek, Taylor, punter Derek Epperson, linebacker Antonio Jones, safety Jordan Lake, defensive lineman Jason Lamb, center J.D. Walton and receiver Kendall Wright.

Allison Indoor Practice Facility dedicated

The Jay and Jenny Allison Indoor Football Practice Facility was dedicated Sept. 26. Head coach Art Briles' squad made good use of the facility even before the official dedication, taking advantage of the indoor field during their first fall practice in early August.
The facility was made possible by a gift from three-time Baylor football letterwinner Jay Allison, BBA '78, MS '80, JD '81, and his wife, Jenny, BSEd '78, MSEd '80. With a full 100-yard field, the facility allows coaches to focus on physical conditioning and strategic training without being stunted by weather conditions.
"It is gratifying that a former Baylor football letterman wanted to give back by helping provide a facility that will serve future Bears for many years to come," head football coach Art Briles commented. "And the name of this facility is critical--because of what it stands for," he added. "Jay and Jenny are great Christians, great parents and great friends. This facility is a tremendous honor for me and the program as we continue the Baylor tradition."
