Alumnus makes cover of Fortune Magazine
Mark Hurd, BBA '79, CEO of Hewlett-Packard and often recognized as one of the top CEOs in the world, graced the cover of Fortune Magazine's March 16 issue as part of a package on "The World's Most Admired Companies."

The seven-page feature took an in-depth look at the 1979 graduate's management style and how he's made HP the world's biggest technology company. The story goes all the way back to his time at Baylor, as the author interviewed his former fraternity partner and varsity tennis partner, Carl Good, BBA '80.

Business school among top 10 in three categories
Once again, Baylor's Hankamer School of Business ranks among the top undergraduate business schools in the country, according to the results of an annual nationwide survey of students conducted by BusinessWeek. Hankamer was particularly lauded for its "small classes, strong accounting program, and focus on ethics."

Baylor ranked among the top 10 in the nation in three categories: Quantitative Methods (No. 5), Accounting (No. 7) and Corporate Strategy (No. 8). An article on Yahoo News about the results pointed out that "At Baylor, students say they are treated like accounting professionals, and that finding a job in the field is a cinch, thanks to a career fair specifically for accounting students."

To rank these programs, BusinessWeek used nine distinct measures of student satisfaction, post-graduation outcomes and academic quality. BusinessWeek surveyed more than 85,000 business majors and 580 corporate recruiters, and also factored in the median starting salaries for graduates and the number of graduates each program sends on to the preeminent MBA programs.

The undergraduate rankings were published in BusinessWeek's March 9 issue.

Violist plays Carnegie Hall with YouTube orchestra
Junior Dawson White, a music (viola) major at Baylor, performed at Carnegie Hall on April 15 as one of 90 young classical musicians from 70 countries selected for the YouTube Symphony Orchestra.

White submitted an audition video through YouTube.com. From 3,000 entries, 200 finalists were put up for a vote on a special YouTube channel. White was one of 13 violists to make the cut.

Baylor teams continue to model success
Baylor University's Model United Nations Team was named "Outstanding Delegation"--the highest award given at the National Model United Nations--during the organization's annual conference in April in New York City.

Baylor's team also won more than half of the individual awards at the competition, which featured 4,000 delegates from more than 290 colleges and universities all over the world.

Last fall, Baylor also won the American Model United Nations in Chicago.

The Baylor Model Organization of American States team continued its tradition of success at this year's Model Organization of American States meeting in April in Washington, D.C.

Senior Seth Reed served as president of this year's model, and Joshua Hyles, a graduate student, served as chair of the Budgetary Affairs Committee. Baylor students Renee Sanchez, Michael Lyssy and Hunter Klein were elected to three of the five top officer positions for 2010.

More than 400 students represented all 34 of the organization's active members across the Western Hemisphere.
