James Carroll Thurmond

James Carroll Thurmond, alumnus by choice, passed away Sept. 13 in Fort Worth. He was 88. Thurmond was a deacon at Broadway Baptist Church and a member for 65 years. He served as a trustee for Buckner International in Dallas for 41 years. His wife, Nancy Thurmond, BA '47, is a former Baylor trustee. Thurmond graduated from UT in 1943 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He moved to Fort Worth and went to work for General Dynamics, now Lockheed Martin. After 36 years, he retired as chief of mechanical design. Memorials include the Nancy A. and James C. Thurmond Endowed Scholarship at Baylor.
