Web Site Becomes More Interactive

June 7, 2004

Do you regret losing touch with your college roommate? Want to find alumni who like to sail? Wish that signing up for alumni events was easier? For more than a year, the Baylor Network has been working to make all of these things and more possible for alumni with the click of a mouse.

An upgrade of the existing Network site will include many new interactive features designed to connect alumni to their alma mater and to each other. That's no small feat, considering the rising number of out-of-state students, said Alan Bowden, director of group programs and activities for the Baylor Network and coordinator of the Web project. "As our alumni body expands throughout the world, we'll be able to tie people back together, which is not something we've been able to do to this point," he said.

Previously, Internet resources for alumni were limited to a directory and a static list of upcoming activities. The new site, completed this month, will feature an amendable directory, which will be updated daily. Users also can request to subscribe to a newsletter or discussion group via e-mail. In the future, alumni will be able to post class notes and pictures of vacations, families and mini-reunions.

As before, upcoming events will be listed online; however, alumni now will be able to register to attend and pay in advance on the secure site.
Separate Web pages will be provided for alumni affinity and regional groups so those with like interests or location can communicate. Behind the scenes, Baylor Network administration will be able to plan future events based on alumni preference and participation.

Although there will be changes to the site, the easy registration process and passwords will remain the same. The Baylor Alumni Association will continue to produce the print edition of the alumni directory.
