• Retiring provost and vice president for academic affairs Donald D. Schmeltekopf was named provost emeritus by President Robert B. Sloan Jr. in May. Dr. Schmeltekopf will continue to serve the University in Christian leadership development.
• The Hankamer School of Business is offering an MBA specialization in health care administration, which consists of six courses and an internship. Other specializations available in the Baylor MBA program include customer relationship management and international business.
• Social work graduates passed their 2001 licensing exams in record numbers. There was a 100 percent passing rate on the basic licensing exam, compared with 69 percent statewide and 77 percent nationwide; the passing rate on the intermediate level was 88 percent, compared with 69 percent statewide and 71 percent nationwide.
• Dr. A. David Mangelsdorff, a professor with the U.S. Army-Baylor University Graduate Program in Health Care Administration at Fort Sam Houston, was awarded a Fulbright scholarship that will allow him to participate in the German Studies Program in Berlin to examine demographics. 
• Karl Umlauf, professor and artist-in-residence, was selected to receive the Centennial Professor Award for 2003. Umlauf will use the award, part of an endowed faculty development fund established by the Class of 1945, to travel to Spain, where he will create paintings and drawings of the ornate baroque facades and architecture. 
• Baylor and the City of Waco in June announced the formation of the Center for Reservoir and Aquatic Systems Research, a partnership that will address complex water issues in the southern region of the nation and other areas of the world that depend on water reservoirs.
